The Siegrist Star
Week of November 4, 2024
LEAD DAY
Career and Community Student Leader Team
This past Friday, October 25, our Siegrist Career and Community Student Leader Team participated in our first real-world learning experience (this school year) alongside Northland Career Center students, who helped navigate through the Health Sciences hands-on demonstrations. Opportunities included: stopping simulated bleeding, applying pressure to wounds, hospital bed care including changing of linens, proper procedure in putting on and taking off latex gloves when exposed to fluids, listening to varying abnormal respiratory/lung sounds, CPR, using medical ortho equipment and assisting with a Hoyer lift getting a patient into bed. Thank you to the Health Sciences advisors who were on hand at all times to offer assistance to NCC students who were teaching our Siegrist students. See more pictures on our Facebook page.
Vote for an upcoming spirit day!
With the 2024 Presidential Election rapidly approaching, Siegrist students used our LEAD Day as an opportunity to learn about citizenship. Students participated in a school-wide voting day. Siegrist Leaders were given three options for an upcoming spirit day. Parent volunteers manned the polls and students even received “I voted” stickers as they turned in their ballots. At our afternoon assembly the results were revealed. Stuffie Day won!! Students may bring an appropriate stuffie (stuffed animal) on Monday, November 4th. Thanks to our Siegrist citizens and our parents that supported this meaningful experience. See more pictures on our Facebook page.
What a fantastic celebration of learning across the grades!
The 2nd graders loved the Root Beer Float treat—such a fun and tasty way to wrap up their states of matter unit. 3rd Grade’s Array Cities activity was a creative approach to practicing multiplication skills, helping them visualize math in a real-world context. The 1st graders’ M&M heat energy experiment is a fantastic introduction to concepts like energy transfer and melting points, while the Halloween crafts tie in beautifully with their curriculum. 5th-grade STEM innovation team’s magnetic maze activity is a fantastic way to explore magnetic forces and problem-solving. Kindergarteners had some memorable sensory experiences too, with activities that built vocabulary and fine motor skills in a fun, hands-on way.
These kinds of activities for Lead Days are amazing for reinforcing concepts while keeping students engaged and excited about learning. View more pictures on our Facebook page.

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week (RRW) is an awareness campaign in October that inspires our students to be drug free, to be smart and to be strong. This campaign is presented to the students in a fun and enthusiastic way. To promote Red Ribbon Week, student leaders collaborated and made posters to to remind us to be drug free. They were also asked to sign our ribbon poster to pledge to be drug free! We our students will continue to promote and encourage others to saying no to drugs and yes to a healthy lifestyle! To promote red ribbon week, our students had a Red Ribbon spirit week. The 2024 official theme is: Life is a Movie, Live Drug Free!

No Crocs November
As Crocs are growing in popularity with our students, these shoes continue to be inappropriate footwear for PE class. Crocs (boots, sandals, slides) just are not safe to be wearing during the PE activities coaches have planned. So Siegrist is going for a NO CROCS in PE class during the month of November. Please make sure your children wear tennis shoes on their assigned PE days or put tennis shoes into their backpacks to change into before PE class. Classes that have 100% students wearing correct footwear..no boots, sandals, slides and especially CROCS will win prizes during November.
Thank you,
Coach Crawford and Coach Stapleton

Winter Weather Planning
Please visit the Winter Weather Information page on the Parents Tab of the District website for information on recess and clothing considerations (there will be no outdoor recess when the wind chill is at 20 degrees or below), cancellations, two-hour delayed starts, how the District will notify families, and Y-Club info.
School Messenger is our automated phone calling and text notification system. We use this system to notify parents quickly for sudden changes in schedules due to emergencies, school cancellations, or just important school announcements.

Winter Weather Information
Click here for information on school cancellations/modifications due to inclement weather, how the District will notify parents, as well as information on recess, Y Club, and Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days. For the 2024-25 school year, PCR-3 will implement Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days for the first five canceled school days. These days will not need to be made up. Any additional canceled school days may be waived, or may need to be made up (added to the academic calendar).
Pull Together!
Dear Platte County Families,
It's time to "pull" together for a great cause! The Siegrist Student Lighthouse team is collecting pop tabs donations to support the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House. We invite you to collect aluminum tabs from any cans, place them in a ziplock bag, and send them to school with your child.
Our students will handle the rest!
We appreciate your support as we work towards our goal of collecting 100 pounds of pop tabs by the end of May. Let’s pull together and make a difference for families in need!
Thank you for your generosity!
PTA - We Need Your Help in the Siegrist Workroom!
First off, THANK YOU! We couldn’t make this program work without YOU!
One of the goals of PTA is to support our amazing teachers by helping with copying, printing, laminating, cutting, and assisting with projects. We’ve set up a simple process to make it easy for you to help:
- There will be a bin in the workroom where teachers will place their papers/projects with clear instructions on what they need and when they need it by.
- Once you’ve completed a project, please place the finished materials in the teacher’s mailbox.
If you’re available to volunteer, the Siegrist PTA has created a Sign-Up Genius for workroom help. We offer 3 slots per day, with options for both morning and afternoon shifts. You can choose to volunteer once or twice a week, or as your schedule allows—every little bit helps!
We truly appreciate your time and support. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at siegristelementarypta@gmail.com.
Thank you again for your dedication!

Friendly Parent Reminders
Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.
Birthday Celebrations-Here is the district policy:
"We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. (See Snacks for more information about opportunities to share snacks in the classroom) If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class."
Transportation:
If your child has a transportation change for the day, please call the office before 2:00 PM. This ensures we can process the change in time before dismissal. You may also send a note with your child or email Anne Klopp at klopp.annemarie@pcr3schools.org.
If we do not receive a call, note, or email regarding transportation changes, we will follow the information already in our system to send your child home.
For any permanent transportation changes, please refer to the "Important Links" section below.
Additionally, please click on the "Transportation Expectations" button below to review important bus and car rider guidelines with your child.
Student Illness/Injury:
If you're unsure whether to send your child to school due to illness, please click the button below. Our nurse has provided important information on her Siegrist webpage about when to keep a sick child at home. There is also guidance on what happens if your child is injured while at school.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Heather Guzman at guzman.heather@pcr3schools.org.
