April Newsletter 2023
A Note From Mr. Campbell
Dear Paul Banks Families,
Before we flip the pages of our calendars to April, I wanted to share some highlights from this past month. And what a month it was. Captain Seadog Campbell fulfilled his dreams of walking the plank because our students far surpassed their goal of 150,000 minutes of reading during our read-a-thon: they read 249,000 minutes! This means that on average all of our students read for more than an hour a day during the read-a-thon. Plus, our students raised $8, 265.70, which helps support Bingo for Books, field trip busing, computer programs and software, books for our library and future read-a-thons. I could not be more proud of our students’ awesome reading efforts!
The 25th Kenai Peninsula Writers Conference announced this year’s winners and Paul Banks led the way, sweeping the competition in the fiction category and capturing two out of three top sports in non-fiction. Bravo to all of the writers who contributed. Read the winners’ work at the Homer Council on the Arts website.
Our kindergarteners ventured out to the Kevin Bell Arena for an afternoon of ice skating. In typical Peanut fashion, our more experienced skaters helped those less experienced, and everyone had a ball! Just last week, our first and second graders welcomed their families to the Habitat Expo and Animal Wax Museum. It was so exciting to welcome so many families to celebrate the phenomenal job they all did with their research and presentations!
Looking to April, there is so much to look forward to at Paul Banks. We are excited for our annual Kindergarten RoundUp; classes have field trips planned; second graders will visit West Homer as they make the transition to their new school; our Art Extravaganza will highlight the creative and beautiful art work all of our students have created; and so much more!
Best,
Sean Campbell
