Harvest Happenings, vol 18

Week of December 2nd - December 6th
A NOTE FROM MS. SICKLER
- I hope you had a wonderful and restful break with your loved ones. It has been a few months since we have reviewed our arrival/dismissal procedures. Please take a moment to review arrival and dismissal process to ensure flow and safety around Harvest.
- One-Lane Traffic: The drop-off loop operates in a clockwise direction and ideally as a "roller coaster". Cars pull forward, students exit the passenger side door ONLY to safely get to the sidewalk, cars leave and the next set of cars can pull forward.
- Pedestrian Crosswalks: Families who are parking and walking into school will cross at our two designated crosswalks.
- Designated Spaces: Handicap parking is available and spaces with diagonal lines are noted as No Parking spaces to ensure safety entering and exiting the parking lot.
- Y5s, Kindergarten, and First Grade families are asked to park and walk up and pick up their students. Second and Third grade families can use the car loop OR pick up their students.
- IF you are bringing a pet with you to pick-up, we ask that you stay in the grassy area behind the flagpole to ensure safety and comfort for all students.
- On Tuesday, we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, where we celebrate our students of all abilities that are part of the Harvest community. The book Just Ask is one of the many books that highlights some of the visible and non-visible disabilities that Harvest Hornets may come across on a daily basis as a community member and reminds all of us to JUST ASK!
- This week I will be out of the building from Tuesday afternoon – Friday attending the MEMSPA (Michigan Elementary & Middle School Principal’s Association) Annual Conference where I will be proud to share our Harvest story with principals and administrators around the state of Michigan. Central administrators will be at Harvest covering for me in my absence.

DID YOU KNOW?
Did You Know all students go outside for recess every day unless the temperature drops below 10 degrees? To ensure your student can safely and comfortably enjoy recess, please make sure they have appropriate winter gear, including coats, boots, hats, and gloves. If you need assistance with winter gear, feel free to contact our Harvest social worker, Mrs. Pickett, or me. We want every Harvest Hornet to enjoy recess to the fullest!
Additional Helpful Tips:
- Winter gear can be stored in lockers or transported daily in a separate bag. Make sure your student knows the plan.
- Label all gear with your student's name.
- Help your student practice putting on their winter gear independently, such as zipping coats and tying boots/shoes.
- Ensure your student has an updated set of extra clothing in their locker for the winter months.
Thank you for helping make winter recess safe and fun!
