OLVCS Updates
August 29, 2024
Dear OLVCS Families,
We had a terrific first day, with a miraculous event that occurred. We had perfect attendance! It was a great way to start the year.
A thank you to the staff, Mary Cawley, Rosemary Weber, and Patty Houtz. These ladies have a hand in every aspect of the start of school, from registering students, to ordering materials and cleaning the building. They work all summer, are amazing, and contribute to our success!
The maintenance staff was hard at work too, we now have an awning over the kitchen door, gutters that were fixed, cement poured and more. Thanks to Mark and Ron too.
That is not all the work that happened over the summer, next week I will thank the many parent volunteers that have been busy already!
If you would like to volunteer please click on this link for information on our website.

Meet Our Student Teacher
Catherine Stanford - Welcome Letter to Parents
Dear Families,
Hi! My name is Catherine Stanford, a student of Penn State University and I will be working as the student teacher for the next 8 weeks in your child's classroom. I am a senior from Long Island, New York majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in applied exercise and health. Through applied exercise and health I am working towards receiving certification in health and physical education for kindergarten through 12th grade. I am in my 9th semester as I was a member of the Varsity Women’s Swimming and Diving team for my first 8 semesters. I chose to extend my college education by one semester so I could focus on my professional development in this field which I am very passionate about. I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to teach, coach and observe in multiple schools in the State College area school district throughout my time at Penn State. Within my time I have taught children of all ages, backgrounds, and students with different needs. I am ecstatic for this learning opportunity at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School.
At a young age I knew that I wanted to be a physical education teacher because of my love for all
different types of sports and the passion I had for being a role model to younger children. Personally, I want my students to understand why becoming a lifelong mover is such a crucial aspect of our everyday lives. Each of my students will be able to demonstrate specific skills, concepts, and movements. Growth in each student's ability to love being physically active is one of the main aspects I wish to achieve. I will be ensuring that all students can work individually and collectively. Overall, in my class everyone will be involved, support, and motivate each other to become successful in executing lifelong healthy habits. Besides working with children, I have been involved with athletics and fitness for my whole life. The main sports I have participated in include swimming, baseball/softball, basketball, and volleyball. Throughout each day I try to move my body whether that be walking, running,
weightlifting, or even participating in a workout class at the nearby fitness studio. My goal after
this semester and graduation is to receive a permanent substitute or maternity leave position for
the spring semester at a local school district close to home on Long Island. Right after graduation, I will be starting as a personal trainer for all different athletes in January of 2025 at an athlete gym where I interned this summer. After the 2025 spring semester I hope to receive a full time teaching position and a coaching spot.
Within these next 8 weeks, I will be implementing an array of teaching styles in order to accommodate all students' needs. I will be teaching a multitude of sports and activities throughout my time at Our Lady of Victory. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I would be happy to have the opportunity to get to know you along with your child!
Sincerely,
Catherine Stanford
