RCE Family Update

We hope everyone has had a relaxing summer! We've spent a great deal of time preparing for the 2024-2025 school year and can't wait to have our students back on August 1st!

Below you will find information for the beginning of school, including 6th grade Rookie Camp and 7th/8th grade Registration. Please take time to read through this information and reach out to us with any questions.

Our 6th Grade Rookie Camp and 7th & 8th Grade Registration dates are below.

During Rookie camp parents and guardians will have the opportunity to stay for an informational meeting while students are in their classes. Student pickup will be at Noon and an optional meet the teacher will follow from 12:00-2:00.

For Registration, students will be able to walk the school and meet their teachers after schedule pickup.

Makeup registration will be Monday, July 29th from 3:00-6:00pm

If you have not completed the Final Forms (link) for your student, please take a minute to do so. This will speed up your wait time at Rookie Camp and Registration. It is very important to have accurate, updated information for all students. Thank you for taking the time to update.

Free Breakfast and Lunch has again been approved by SDPC. Any a la carte items or second meals will come with a charge.

We've remained committed to a 6 period day at Edwards Middle. This year we will have a 30 minute Flextime built in for all students to receive support in all subject areas. This schedule has also allowed us to include several Pickens County Career and Technology courses for our 8th graders.

Eligibility

Per the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL), all 7th and 8th graders are eligible to play sports. 6th graders can contact individual coaches for possible managing opportunities.

Daniel High offers the following fall sports to RCE 7th and 8th graders: girls golf, girls tennis, swimming and cross country. Please see Daniel High (link) for more information.

Participation

Anyone interested in playing football or volleyball needs to have their 2024-2025 paperwork completed in BigTeams (link) prior to participation.

Football - 1st day of practice is August 5th 3:45-5:45 (pick up in the 7th and 8th grade car line)

Volleyball - Tryouts are August 6th-8th 3:45-5:30 (pick up in the back bus loop beside the gym)

Tickets

Edwards Middle and Daniel High will continue using Hometown Ticketing as an online ticket sale option. All schools in Pickens County will also be selling paper tickets at the gate and accepting cash. Ticket prices for all 2024-25 athletic events will be $6 and will be open to purchase 3 days prior to each event. RCE Tickets (link)

Booster Club

The RC Edwards Athletic Booster Club supports all student athletic programs by purchasing equipment, uniforms, meals, maintenance, and many other things. Because of YOU, the 2023-24 school year was a successful one for the RCE PTSO.

Your membership dues, donations, and time spent volunteering provided over student celebrations, teacher classroom grants, a staff appreciation breakfast every month, a staff treat every month, and Teacher Appreciation celebrations.

MySchoolBucks will be our primary way of accepting fee payments. The only fee that every student needs to pay is the $25 Tech It Home fee that is required to receive a student device in SDPC. For our Grade 8 students taking Algebra 1, we do encourage all students to have access to a TI-84 graphing calculator. Students can purchase their own (TI-84CE is also an option) or rent one from RCE for $6. These fees can be paid through the MySchoolBucks button below. RCE would prefer that families use MySchoolBucks prior to attending a registration event.

This year we will be working with the Jostens company to order yearbooks. Look on our website or social media for when that link is posted.

Nurse Mullis will be on campus from July 25th-July 31st. If you would like to drop off medications at school or meet with her to discuss student health concerns, please email her (jessicamullis@pickens.k12.sc.us) or call (397-4207) to set up an appointment.

All families are reminded that every student needs to pay the $25 Tech It Home device fee to cover a comprehensive insurance policy for your SDPC issued device. This fee can be paid via MySchoolBucks (button above).

Any students enrolled in PCVA who need to pick-up a student Chromebook, should come to school at RCE from 3:00-6:00 on July 29th.

Every teacher at RC Edwards Middle uses Schoology to post assignments and grades. If you have any questions about using Schoology at home or regarding internet security options, please checkout the links below, which provide a wealth of information.

Please remember that the South Carolina Tax Free Weekend will be held after school starts this year (August 2-4). Our Teachers will keep this in mind as they plan instruction during the first week of school.
