On behalf of my family, I would like to thank the board of education, staff, and the Pepin community for the warm welcome! I am honored to be your school district superintendent. Through the entire interview and hiring process, I was impressed with the people that I met and the pride that they all have in Pepin and our school. Many people shared personal stories about how this school and community have impacted their lives. I look forward to working with all members of this school community and honoring the tremendous work of those that have come before me. It’s a privilege to welcome all of you back to our schools for another year of learning and personal growth!
With that being said, I want to recognize several individuals. First, Shirley Seifert was a pillar of the Pepin community and her sudden passing was certainly difficult for many. I was able to attend Shirley’s celebration of life gathering and meet many people who loved and respected her. Her dedication to her family, school, and community is inspiring and she will be dearly missed in our community. Secondly, Sara Ericson was appointed in July at our regular school board meeting to fill Shirley’s seat and complete her term on the board. We welcome Sara to the board of education and thank her for her service. I also would like to thank Adam Kissell and Heidi Baader for their interest in serving on the board. Additionally, I want to acknowledge Brian Runquist who served the district for over 25 years as a bus route driver and activity driver and wish him well in retirement. Finally, I want to thank and acknowledge Bruce Quinton for his servant leadership and dedication to the Pepin Area School District and community for the past 20 years. Mr. Quinton has been gracious in his support of me as I transition into the role as the new superintendent here in Pepin. Enjoy your retirement Mr. Quinton as you’ve certainly earned it! It takes a village to raise a child and all of the individuals mentioned deserve our thanks for their time, knowledge, and dedication to our school community.
This will be the final time I shine any light on myself as I view myself to be the least important person in the district. The district has already put several releases out highlighting me and my transition into the position of superintendent. Our staff are the people working directly with our students, supporting their needs, and changing the lives of children on a daily basis; they should be the focal point, not me. My job is to support their work and give them the tools and support they need to do their important work. I won’t bore you anymore with my life story, but rather tell you this….I am a small town boy. I grew up in a small town, I’ve only lived in small towns, and I’ve only worked in small towns. This is who I am as a person!
A person needs to know who they are and what they stand for. I believe in building positive relationships with people even when differences of opinion exist. I believe in servant leadership and treating others with common dignity and respect. I believe in the value of seeing others while listening first and speaking second. I know that my position as a school leader will not always make me popular or liked in some cases. However, I will always do two things: 1) own any mistake I make and learn from it, and 2) I will always make decisions that are in the best interest of all students. There is no hidden agenda in the work we do. The goal is always to embrace every child, meet them where they are individually, and help them grow.
As we look forward to the start of the 2024-2025 school year, we will have some new faces joining our school family and some familiar faces doing some new work for us this year. Here are the new staff members and additional staffing changes:

I hope you will take the time to welcome each new staff member to our school and community. We are excited to have them joining the Pepin Area School District family.
For the first time in nearly three decades I am calling a new part of Wisconsin home. I have been living in the area for just over a month and have gleaned the following so far: 1) The Pepin area is an absolutely beautiful part of our state, 2) The people here have been nothing but kind and welcoming, 3) There is obvious pride in this school community and what it can offer, and 4) There is a successful co-op between two neighboring communities (Pepin and Alma) that appears to be benefitting everybody involved. This type of “student focused” planning is something that I have deep respect for.
As we embark on another school year, we will continue our mission of providing our students with the best education possible in the most responsible way possible. Through the hard work of our board of education, the district is in a strong financial position, but there will be challenges ahead that we will need to address as a school and community. By working together we can continue the tradition of providing our community with a school that they can be proud of.

As we gear up for a fantastic new school year, we are thrilled to welcome both new and returning students and parents to our vibrant school community. The first day of school is just around the corner. Mark your calendars for August 26. This is an exciting day for everyone, filled with new beginnings and opportunities. We can't wait to welcome our students back and start the year off on a positive note. The first day can be a bit overwhelming, but we're here to make it as smooth as possible. From finding classrooms to meeting new friends, our staff will be there to guide and support your child every step of the way. Make sure to arrive a bit early to get settled in and start the day with a smile. We will end the day with a Welcome Back Assembly and Popsicles on the playground!
Open House Details
We're excited to invite you to our Open House on August 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's teachers, see their classrooms, and learn more about what to expect this year. It's a drop-in format, so feel free to come anytime during the event.
Special Information for 4K Parents
Parents of 4K students we have a special meet and greet just for you on August 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the 4K room. This is a wonderful chance for your little ones to get acquainted with their new classroom and for you to meet the teachers and ask any questions you may have. More information will be sent home by Ms. Brecka.
Picture Day
Smile! Picture Day is on September 4. This is a fun and memorable day for students, so make sure to mark your calendars and have your child dress their best. Details about picture packages and ordering will be sent home closer to the date.

📸We love to share and publicize all the awesome things that our students and staff are up to! Classroom activities and school events are often photographed or videotaped by the school or media groups (newspaper, television, district public relations, etc.) In addition, the district may want to post articles, video, or photography on the district website, newsletter or social media.
If you DO NOT want your child’s photograph, video, and/or electronic image to be published for news media or school publicity purposes, please complete this form by August 26, 2024.
By NOT completing this form, we are assuming you give permission for your child's image to be published for district use.

How to Order?
All galleries will be delivered to parents via email 2-5 business days after picture day. There will also be paper order forms available at the school, if you would like to order your students' school headshot with a gray background with cash or check. All paper order forms must be given to the photographer on Picture Day.
Cahill Studios will be sending you a picture day reminder a week before picture day from the following email address: no-reply@imagequix.com so keep a lookout. You'll be able to view their 100+ FREE background options so you can best coordinate your students' outfit! Don't forget to dress head to toe and get your haircuts done.

Wait to purchase photos, and your child can have their picture taken on Retake Day: Tuesday, October 15.

Join our parent group!
Would you like to be part of a group determined to assist and enrich the learning environment of the Pepin Elementary utilizing parent driven leadership? We would love to have you consider joining our Family Resource Council!
Our group meets on the second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. We will meet in person and use zoom if that’s more convenient for you to participate. We currently sponsor several monthly events that are family friendly. These activities offer opportunities for parents of our community to get to know one another, as well as, time for children to enjoy.

Who Is My School Counselor?
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Danni Noel and I am the 4K-12 Counselor. I graduated from PHS and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. I live in Pepin with my husband and son. We enjoy traveling, riding horse, and spending time on Lake Pepin.
What Does My School Counselor Do?
Classroom Lessons
I participate in the specials rotation for 4th, 5th, & 6th grade every Thursday. Your students will receive a Social/Emotional Learning lesson during this time. This year we will be rolling out a new curriculum called Character Strong, which encourages three main goals for all students: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well.
7th grade receives approximately 6 Academic & Career Planning lessons throughout the year.
8th grade will complete Careers 8 during quarter 4.
All 11th grade students will complete Careers 11 during semester 1 or 2.
All other grades receive classroom lessons on an as needed basis.
Individual Counseling
Both teachers and parents can refer students for individual counseling.
Referrals should occur after classroom strategies have been implemented (exceptions would be family or safety concerns).
Students typically meet with counselor for 6-8 weeks.
Students might see me for individual counseling to work on organization, anger management, friendship skills, or another concern.
You can email me, call me, or stop by my office if you would like to refer a student for individual counseling.
Senior meetings will be held during September & October. Parents are invited to attend with their student.
Junior conferences are held in the spring. Parents are invited to attend.
Small Group Counseling
If data demonstrates there is a specific need for a small group within a grade level, a small group counseling opportunity may be available.
Small groups meet for 20 minutes for approximately 6 sessions.
School Support
Some of my other roles include crisis support, student scheduling, teacher consultation, and district testing coordination.
I am here to help all of our kids succeed. Please reach out if there’s anything I can do to support your student. Let’s have a great year!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
In compliance with the Wisconsin Immunization Law, students are required to be up to date on vaccinations. Typically, if the student is up to date, this means that before Kindergarten they will need to get 3 immunizations (Polio, MMR and Varicella). Certainly, this could look a bit different if they are behind schedule.
For those entering 7th grade, a Tdap (Tetanus/whooping cough) and Menactra (meningitis) is due.
For those entering 12th grade, a booster Menactra is due.
The Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) is not required for school, but recommended.
To be compliant with the school law, parents must provide their child’s school with proof of immunization or sign a waiver for religious or personal conviction reasons.
As always, if you have questions or would like me to look up your child’s immunization record, I am here to help. I ask that if possible, you get the needed vaccines (and submit proof to the school) over the summer so we are all set in the fall.
Weekend Meals Program for Students
The Pepin Food Pantry sponsors a Weekend Meals Program for students during the school year for students in the Pepin Area Schools. This program is to provide food for school-age children on weekends when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. There is NO cost to enroll your child in the program.
ALL ABOUT BIRTH TO 3
The Birth to Three Program is Wisconsin’s early intervention program for infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities and their families. A federal law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), provides a framework for a comprehensive program and coordinates developmental, health, and social services with the community. The Birth to 3 Program is for children ages 0 to 36 months. Eligibility is based on a diagnosed disability or significant delay in one or more areas of development. The team evaluates the child’s ability to learn (cognitive development); move, see and hear (physical/motor development); communicate and understand other’s communication (speech and language development); play and interact with other (social development); and eat, dress and care for daily living needs (adaptive development).A Birth to 3 Teacher/Service Coordinator helps the family understand and participate in the evaluation process. The Birth to Three Program continues to remain firmly committed to being a family-centered service for young children and their families.
Who is eligible?
Anyone may contact the Birth to Three Program if they have questions regarding their child’s development. Other family members, pediatricians, day care providers, and other community agencies may also make referrals to the Birth to Three Program. If appropriate, and with parental consent, additional screening and/or evaluations may be completed to help determine if a child is eligible for Birth to Three services. A child may be found eligible for early intervention services in the following ways: 1) demonstration of a 25% delay or greater in one or more developmental area; 2) demonstration of atypical development; or 3) having a diagnosed condition which has a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay. If a child is found eligible, the child’s family may choose to enroll in the Birth to Three Program. They, together with other Birth to Three team members, would develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to outline goals and services. Participation is entirely voluntary.
