Human Resources Newsletter
June, 2024
June is a great time of year when we celebrate numerous graduations and weddings but it also time when we recognize the service and accomplishments of our retirees. A school district is best defined by the people who make it come alive every day. On June 18, Dr. Gruccio and the Board of Education will recognize the employees that have retired this year and honor their years of service. We will miss their faces and smiles but wish them well as they spend some well-deserved time with family and friends.

Before you go, make sure your contact information is up to date
This is understandably the last thing you are thinking about when there are 9 days of school left. It is critical, however, that we have up-to-date contact information (i.e. cell phone, address, name changes) for all employees. This includes your emergency contact information. If you have had any changes in these areas, please reach out to Jane Rainear at extension 1025 or rainearj@eht.k12.nj.us to update.
Summer is also a good time to assess your physical, mental, and financial health. If you have delayed preventative medical screenings for which you are due, now is the time to correct that. If you are experiencing high stress and anxiety levels, seek out one of the many providers covered by our insurance plans and look into additional wellness activities such as yoga classes, a daily exercise routine, and a nutritional evaluation. As far as finances and lifelong learning, the same questions we posed going into last summer are still valid:
-Is it time to pursue that advanced degree or further education I have been thinking about?
-If so, am I comfortable with online learning platforms or do I need to seek out a local/regional university?
-How will I budget for tuition knowing that the district may cover a portion but is on a first-come, first-serve basis?
-Should I participate in the 403(b) tax-deferred retirement accounts that are offered by the district to supplement my future pension income?
-If I currently have a 403(b) account, do I need to adjust my withholdings to reflect my current situation and future needs more accurately?
-Short-term and long-term disability insurance is not provided by the state or the school district, should I look into securing some level of coverage?
-Should I sign up for a Flexible Spending Account so I can save on taxes with my out-of-pocket medical expenses (i.e. prescription and office visit copays)? Keep in mind, there is a designated window during the year when you would make this election; it cannot be done anytime.
While the Human Resources and Business Departments cannot answer these questions for you or endorse any provider, we can always provide information and contacts for you to make an informed decision. We are here throughout the summer so please do not hesitate to reach out.
On behalf of all the staff at Central Office, we wish you a safe, happy, and healthy summer recess!
