Royal High School's Weekly Bulletin: August 14, 2022
In This Issue:
Highlander Nation is excited and ready for another fantastic year. This bulletin will provide you with important information and contacts for the Kickoff Week as well as the start of a successful year for you and your family.
Please refer to the contact list below for any questions you may have. The staff and administration of RHS are proud to partner with families to give our students the best experience as part of The Royal High School Family.
Welcome Back, Royal Family!
Dear Highlanders,
As we embark on the new school year, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to our new students and a heartfelt welcome back to our returning students. I hope your summer was filled with relaxation, fun times, and meaningful moments with friends and family. For those of you with summer assignments, I encourage you to complete them before the school year begins.
As we step into the first days of school, I urge every student to find their connection within the Royal High School community. Our school offers a rich variety of opportunities, whether in athletics, arts, academics, or activities, allowing you to discover your unique niche. Research consistently shows that students who feel connected to their school are more likely to excel academically. This connection might be found through participating in sports, singing in the choir, or building a relationship with a trusted adult on campus. Our goal is to ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging at Royal High and has a reliable mentor to turn to.
I eagerly look forward to seeing all of you on the first day of school. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Michael Hall
Principal

Off Campus and Lunch Stickers available now!
To grant your child(ren) permission for these off-campus privileges, please complete this Off-Campus Authorization Form. The form must be submitted ONLY by a parent or legal guardian using the parent email address listed on the student’s Aeries emergency contact page. Parents of siblings must submit authorization for each of their students attending Royal High School.
Parent authorization by Monday, August 5th will ensure that your student receives their off-campus sticker during Kickoff Week! Otherwise, students will be given their sticker in the second week of school.
This process ensures that all students, including incoming freshmen, newly enrolled students, and those who need a reminder, understand and comply with our policies for a smooth and fair operation of on- and off-campus privileges.
What if I can not attend on my assigned day?
Students who cannot attend their Kickoff Day (due to family trips, out of town commitments, etc.) have three options:
1. A person who is listed as a contact on Aeries can pick up materials during or after the student's assigned session
OR
2. Students who miss their day may come in on a lower grade day at (not available on Friday Aug 9)
OR
3. Students may get their materials between 7:30 and 8:30 am on the first day of school.
Class Schedules
Students will receive what is called a "locator" at Kickoff. This is not the student's official schedule. It is only the courses in which the student is enrolled. There are no class periods, teacher names, or classrooms on the locator.
The purpose of the locator is to ensure the student is enrolled in appropriate courses and to assist in checking out textbooks.
Final schedules will be available in the Aeries portal on the evening of Wednesday, August 14. Students who do not have mobile access to Aeries can ask for a printed schedule at the Attendance office the first day of school.
Students with class schedule conflicts may request a schedule change via google form. Appropriate change requests include: duplicate courses, removing courses already completed, missing courses, etc. Requests for specific teachers or class periods will not be honored.
Students requesting to drop AP, IB, or honors courses must have a face to face student and parent meeting with the AP of Curriculum and Instruction, Ms. Zapata.

PE Shirts $15
PE Shorts $20
ASB Sticker $85, (We are going back to ASB stickers on the ID cards. So these will need to be purchased in ASB or on the webstore, individual game tickets and other event tickets will still be on gofan)
Yearbook- Early Bird Price $85 until August 31, $100 on Sept 1. Purchase at Walsworth (note this is a new site).
What do I need for the 24-25 school year?
School needs can be confusing year to year. We are here to help.
The Essentials:
All students will need the basic school essentials: pens, pencils, paper, and somewhere to organize their documents. Teachers may request specific items, but we are going more and more digital each year, so you may wait to get anything more than the essentials until after the first day of school. Purchase these items at your favorite retailer.
Computer and Books:
The school district provides each student with a laptop computer and a set of textbooks. It is the student's responsibility to bring them to class every day. Students should not bring their personal devices to school (these create Wi-Fi and programming issues). Students are responsible for the care of books and the laptop and may be responsible for damages. Students who are new to the district receive their computer from the library on their Kickoff day.
Lockers and Locks:
Students may use a locker on campus but it is not required. Lockers are assigned at Kickoff. Please do not put a lock or items in a locker that has not been officially assigned to you. If you do, your items will be removed.
All lockers must use a Royal High School lock (available for purchase in the ASB office for $15). Students can use the same lock for all four years. Other locks will be removed.
PE Clothes:
If you are a freshmen or sophomore and enrolled in PE class, you will need PE clothes. If you are in a sport (including marching band and dance) you will not need PE clothes. Your coach will inform you of the practice uniform. PE Shirts are $15 and Shorts are $20.
ASB Sticker:
The ASB sticker costs $85 and is worth over $400. The sticker gives the student free admission to all home regular season sports contests, discounts on dance tickets, senior events, and more. Purchase your ASB Sticker in the ASB office or online on the webstore.
How does the ASB Pass work? Students will show their ASB sticker on their ID in order to enter events. To get discounts for dances and events with the ASB sticker, enter your ID number on gofan and the discount will be automatically applied.
ID Card:
All students will take their ID photo on Kickoff Day. Students must carry their ID card at all times. The ID card is what allows students to be out during free periods and to enter and exit campus during the school day. Royal staff may request to see a student ID as any time.
The ID photo will be used in Aeries and in the school yearbook (for underclassmen) You may order pictures through Cornerstone photography (see flyer below).
Seniors need to schedule their senior portraits with Cornerstone. Senior portraits are a special feature in the yearbook. Look for an email from cs@cornerstone.photo with your invitation to make an appointment.
Yearbook:
The award winning Royal yearbook is amazing. It is over 280 pages of #RoyalLife. All students will want one, but it is a must for graduating seniors. Now, for a short time, the cost is $85 but will go up to $100 on September 1. All yearbook purchases can be made from Walsworth (note this is a new site). The 2024 book sold out, so don't miss your opportunity to own your piece of Royal History.

Student Account Holds
This is time sensitive and should be cleared up prior to attending Kickoff Day.
Students who have not completed the following will need to clear a hold on their account prior to getting locators, textbooks, or lockers.
1. The information in the Aeries portal must be confirmed and/or updated annually. If a family has not already confirmed the information in Aeries, this will need to be done before the student can pick up their locators. From a computer or laptop, simply login to the Aeries portal and follow the prompts to confirm the information is up-to-date. Note: Please use a computer. The system has difficulty working through a smart phone. If you previously have set up an account you will not need an authorization code.
The Aeries System is our primary tool of communication for families. It is required that all families complete the data confirmation in the Aeries portal before the start of school.
Click here for directions to complete this process.
2. Students who have a balance on their ASB or library accounts need to be cleared through the ASB office or the Library prior to acquiring lockers and textbooks.
