Fraser Public Schools Multi-Tier Support System (MTSS)
Dear Fraser Families,
Fraser’s teaching staff is committed to helping all students succeed. The Mission Statement for our district is “Innovate. Learn. Lead.” There are many ways to help students to be as successful as possible. We also realize here at Fraser, that our students do not come to us as “one size fits all” learners, have different learning styles, and learn at different rates. Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is one way to offer needed support.
Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a process of providing educational and behavioral support. There are three tiers in this approach, and they are as follows:
- Tier I: ALL students receive the core curriculum and instruction in their regular education classrooms as well as School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (SW-PBIS). The teachers work with all students at their individual levels.
- Tier II: ALL students receive the core curriculum and instruction in their regular education classrooms. The school provides targeted interventions to students who need more support in addition to what they are receiving in their general education classroom.
- Tier III: Students in this tier receive more intensive interventions. They are exposed to the core curriculum in their general education classroom but need more intensive interventions on basic skills that usually requires an individual learning or behavioral plan.
Fraser Public Schools has developed a timeline for student assessments. Your child’s general education teacher conducts additional and more frequent progress monitoring to move students fluidly through these tiers as needed based on each students’ assessment data. As a parent, you will be notified by your child’s school if your child moves into a different tier of support.
If you have any questions about MTSS, please do not hesitate to contact us. Also, the Fraser website has additional information on MTSS as well.
Sincerely,
Mary Kate Mulligan

Second Step Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum
As you know, in September we kicked of the Second Step Curriculum in all K-8 classes to further strengthen our social and emotional learning. Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with a variety of social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
This week, each grade-level will begin a new unit. Please view the grade-level home links below to learn more about what your child is learning and how to support them at home during the second unit of Second Step.

Halloween Around Disney
Parade: A short "Halloween Parade" will take place beginning at 10:00AM on Thursday, October 31st. Weather permitting, we will parade out door #17 and around the building. Our kindergarten students will lead the parade around each classroom and then out around the building. All are welcome to come and watch our costume parade outdoors!
Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels may be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check at least 48 hours prior to volunteering.
Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Thursday, October 31st. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). Costume masks can be worn for the parade only, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.
Lost and Found
Missing Items? Check our Lost and Found
Our lost and found is filling up with a large number of zip-up hoodies and sweatshirts. If your student is missing any items, please have them check the lost and found!
You can help us reduce the number of items in our lost and found by labeling tags and water bottles with your students name. When found, we will return to your child!
Student-Led Conferences
We are looking forward to having our teachers meet with you and your child during Disney's Student- Led Conferences. During this time, students will showcase their goals and academic progress. It is important to include your child in these conferences so that they can take ownership of their academic plan for the year. Conference dates and times are as follows:
- Wednesday, October 23rd from 4:30 to 7:30 PM
- Thursday, October 24th from 1:00-3:30 PM & 4:30-7:30 PM
On Thursday, October 10th each classroom teacher will be sending home classroom and/or grade-level specific conference information via email. Our teachers will once again be using the online scheduling service, Sign-Up Genius, to do so. This process is very easy, and only takes a few minutes to sign-up for a time. If you have multiple children at Disney, you will receive an email from EACH teacher and will need to review information from them to ensure multiple conferences are scheduled. Links will also be included in next week’s edition of Behind the Magic.
We look forward to seeing everyone at conferences. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
Canvas Parent Account
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
Parents can use Canvas to
Contact their child’s teacher
View grades, due dates, and events
See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
Support an absent student
View classroom and building announcements
And more!
For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade:
A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade:
To log in as your student, go to this website (preferably in Chrome, but Safari is okay):
https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/myfps Click on the icon that says Canvas Student Login.
Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.
