What are Steroids?
Anabolic steroids are the kind you hear about the most. They behave like male sex hormones, and doctors prescribe them for treating problems like late puberty as well as significant muscle loss in patients with cancer and AIDS. But they're often used illicitly by athletes who are addicted to winning.

How are Steroids used in Medicine ?
Steroids can be prescribed for Cancer. Theses steroids are Cortisone, hydro-cortisone, prednisone, and Methyprednisolone. These steroids help reduce nausea associated with chemotherapy and radiation. It also helps kill cancer cells and shrink tumors as a part of chemotherapy. And lastly it decreases swelling.Steroids can also be used for daily medicine like reducing allergic reactions before transfusions.

- In a liquid or pill form
- as a cream

How are Steroids administered?
Doctors may prescribe steroids to patients as a form of pain killer during recovery. This is the most popular way they are administered because they reduce recovery time. They are also commonly found in gyms and other workout places because as well as shortening recovery time, it can be used as a dietary supplement to increase strength and endurance.
How long do the effects of Steroids last?
The effects of and how long they last depend on the use at a time and overall use. Sometimes a person will build up a tolerance to a certain steroids, requiring a greater dosage and therefore having greater effects.
Some common side effects;
- High blood pressure levels
- Acne
- Thinning of hair
- Mood swings

What are the laws or social concerns over Steroids?
There is an increasing concern over the mass use of steroids. The biggest concern socially is the way people act in society. Steroids can increase mood swings, making people more hostile. This is commonly known as 'roid rage'
What support is out there ?
There is actually tons of support out there. Just like any other drug related addiction there is the 12 step program. This program help stray the person away from their addiction in a simple 12 steps. For steroid addiction however if the user has such bad withdrawal than hospitalization and or therapy will be offered.
