West Point El. Parent Update
Week of November 24, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
Happy Thanksgiving Week! We hope you enjoy the holiday break with family and friends. We are grateful for our incredible students, family, staff, and supportive school community!
Here are four important things to know for the coming week.
- There is no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, November 27-29 for Thanksgiving Break.
- Applications for musical auditions and for stage crew are now available in the office. The musical is for all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Stage crew is for 6th grade only.
Orange sign-up slips are due back on Monday, December 2, which is the day we come back from Thanksgiving Break. Please talk to Jill Bott in the office if you have any questions.
- Student Council will be sponsoring their Toys for Tots Fundraiser Monday, December 2 - Friday, December 6, which is the week we come back from Thanksgiving Break. Please see the attached flyer below. We will send a link for online donations in next week's newsletter.
- Yearbooks can be purchased on myDSD. They cost $15.00 through December 31. Prices go up to $18.00 starting January 1.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!

Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
We are continuing with last week's manner, "Learn to Compromise." This is such an important skill for student and adults to learn, and it is a way to show others that we care enough to find solutions that work for everyone.

November's LETTERING Focus - G is for Gratitude
This is the last week of our focus on Gratitude. Students have had the opportunity to practice gratitude each day. Ask them about some of the things they are grateful for!
November Brag Tags
Please keep up the good work for our last week of the month by encouraging your students to earn their November brag tags. Students can earn a brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.
WPE Christmas Ball
Our Christmas Ball/Glow Dance Party will be Wednesday, December 18. The students have done an awesome job completing behavior challenges, which is how they move the hands around the clock and earn accessories and fun activities for the dance party. We are looking forward to a magical time!
District Information for Parents
DEEP Program
Dear Parent(s),
The Davis School District has a longstanding commitment to meeting the needs of advanced learners through Davis Enhanced Education Programs (DEEP). Our full-time DEEP Magnet classes are designed for students who consistently master academic content at a more rapid pace than their age level peers.
The DEEP Magnet program, which has been at Lakeside Elementary for many years, is in the process of transitioning and expanding to Clinton Elementary. Please see the chart below.
If your child demonstrates above-average academic ability and would benefit from challenging curriculum at a faster pace, we encourage you to consider applying to have your student take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to determine eligibility for DEEP Magnet placement.
There will be CogAT testing at Clinton Elementary, during the school day, for students currently in grades 1 and 2 on December 3, 4, and 5.
Testing for other grade levels is available at the district offices in Farmington.
If you would like your student to participate in this testing and be considered for DEEP Magnet placement next year, please fill out an application at the link below as soon as possible.
