Deer Creek Special Services Scoop

This month the Antler Spotlight is shining on students at Prairie Vale Elementary. Mrs. Pfleeger and Mrs. Barker are providing their students the opportunity to practice real life skills through operating a Drink cart. Students are not only receiving early transition skills, but creating smiles across their school!

Building teams please schedule time to staff on your students and determine 24-25 program placement. Staff can find the descriptions here. Each site was provided a Google Spreadsheet for your site which is due by the 3rd week of April (titled "site Placement Team Decision". If you would like a member of the Special Services admin team to attend, please check our schedule and feel free to invite us. The Special Services admin team will review the placement decisions, provide feedback and then the sites will begin holding staffings to inform parents. These meetings will be conducted in person, virtually or via phone calls with parents.

Our like team/group meeting for the month of March was conducted on 3/27/24. The topic of discussion during this meeting was all things Extended School year. The Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP) Testing Window opened March 25th and ends May 15th. If you have any questions regarding OAAP testing, please reach out to Courtney Warrington. PD slide deck here

The PSG will host their next monthly meeting on April 2nd from 6:00 - 7:00 pm at the DCTC. This month a representative from the Department of Rehabilitation Services will present and be available to answer questions regarding services and supports provided to students and families. Please take a moment to forward information about this upcoming meeting to the parents and guardians of your students.

Also, don't forget, the PSG has requested a wishlist from each special education teacher in Deer Creek. The wishlists will be added to the PSG agendas so that parents have access to the information to provide support. If you haven't already, please complete the Classroom Wishlist Google Form.

The Center on Transition Innovations

The Center on Transition Innovations at Virginia Commonwealth University is offering a FREE self-paced 9-lesson course aligned with their theme for March, Transition Planning. The Fundamentals of Transition Planning course is packed with guidance, information, evidence-based practices, and practical application tips for creating effective, high quality transition plans resulting in seamless transition planning. Alternate Diploma Collaborative

OSDE, Office of Special Education Services holds a Secondary Transition/Alternate Diploma Collaborative meeting monthly. Zoom meetings are typically held on the 4th Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m.

FBA/BIP Training

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Special Education Services (OSDE-SES) 2022 Policies and Procedures (P. 56): OSDE Guidance/Fact Sheet

“Due to the complex nature of variables associated with behavior assessments, individuals who conduct a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA), or for those who conduct a Functional Analysis (FA) should have training on data collection and behavior assessment.”

The following professional development opportunity meets criteria as acceptable training to conduct and develop FBA/BIP.

• OSDE Connect: Everyday Behavior : Behavioral Principles in the School Setting (**note that you must select the 20 hr session to meet criteria) Send certificate of completion to Dr. Blankenship (tracyblankenship@dcsok.org) once course is completed.
