Mountain Lion Memo
Family Newsletter - November 8th, 2024
Hello Mackeben Families,
Morning Arrival -
We have noticed an increase in unsafe driving during our morning arrival. We want to ensure safety for all of our students and families in and around our school.
- Please limit walking your child up to the building and begin using the car rider line. This will reduce the amount of possible pedestrian accidents.
- We will be placing traffic cones in empty parking spots before 8:00am in the farthest east rows in the parking lot. The reason behind this is that visitors are pulling out, while cars are exiting the car rider line and causing bottlenecking and car collisions.
We have staff that support students getting out of the car in the car rider line. We do not count late arrival while our front door staff members are outside assisting with the car rider line.
When using the car rider line please remember to:
- Pull up all the way to drop your child off.
- We have three doors that students may enter. The front door, side door and back door for arrival.
- Please have all students exit on the passenger side of the car, closest to the curb.
- Please do not get out of your car. We have staff outside to assist if needed.
Thank you for adjusting your morning routine to allow for the safety and security of all of our students, families and staff.

Lunch Supervisors
Thank you to this lovely group of ladies that dedicate their day to helping our students. At lunch they will open milk cartons, fruit cups and go-gurts with ease, they clean up endless spills and encourage positive behavior in the cafeteria. At recess, even in the cold of winter, they are there making sure our students are safe, playing fair and kindly and enjoying their time.
Being a lunch supervisor is not an easy or glamorous job and we appreciate our lunch supervisors dearly!!! Thank you for always supporting our students, giving them the extra love and being the wonderful ladies you are!!!!

Family Learning Series
Meaningful Inclusion: Understanding Accommodations for Student Success
In this Family Learning series, we will continue the conversation on meaningful inclusion. The Illinois Elevating Special Educators Network (IESE) will present on ways to carry out the district’s motto of supporting “All Students Always” and highlight the importance of understanding accommodations that support student success. The IESE Network will discuss what accommodations are and how they help promote a learning environment where all students are supported. They will also discuss how accommodations are supported in high school and on college and university campuses. All Huntley 158 staff and families are invited to join the discussion in-person or via Zoom. See details below.

RAD Event
RAD: Native American Heritage Month and World Kindness Day
In November, Huntley 158’s RAD team is recognizing and celebrating diversity in conjunction with World Kindness Week. Join them by conducting acts of kindness from November 11 through November 15! The acts of kindness that the RAD committee has planned are inspired by the Native American principles of kindness: walk in another’s moccasins, respect for all life, interconnectedness, community focus, and generosity and giving. See the week-at-a-glance below. To learn more about Native American heritage, click the link for RAD’s November calendar.
On Monday, November 11, to “walk in another’s moccasins,” we encourage you to explore an item from our November calendar of engagement opportunities.
On Tuesday, November 12, HHS RAD committee members will be “respecting all life” by picking up trash in the parking lot. We encourage you to pick up trash in your community too!
On Wednesday, November 13, to promote “interconnectedness,” RAD committee members from the high school will head to Leggee to give high-fives as Leggee students exit the building. This is also World Kindness Day! We encourage you to share kind messages and connect with your peers and community.
On Thursday, November 14, RAD members will be spreading kindness with a “community focus” by sharing painted rocks around the town.
To end the World Kindness Week, RAD students will be celebrating “generosity and giving” by dropping off donations to the Grafton Food Pantry and Animal House Shelter. You can find a list of items that are most needed for both locations posted on RAD’s social media.
