Nurse's Nook
Dear CAP Community,
It's Allergy Time!!!
We are in the season where pollen is in the air and this can trigger allergic reactions in some students. Common symptoms include sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and watery eyes. It is essential that these symptoms are treated at home and appropriate medication is given. We do not treat students for allergies, please be sure to give allergy medication at home the night before or the morning of, if it doesn’t cause drowsiness. Allergy symptoms can trigger asthma symptoms in some individuals. It is important that you manage your asthma at home according to your orders and work closely with your family doctor to develop a treatment plan. If you have not already done so, please send MED 1, Asthma Action Plan and Asthma Rescue medication. Medication must be in it’s original package with the child's name, doctor’s name, medication name, instructions for administration and expiration date.
Medication administration reminder:
Any medications to be given in school must have a Medication 1 Form from the doctor. All medications that are changed i.e. dosage, or other must have a new medication form. Medications will be administered according to doctors orders only. Rescue inhalers are the inhalers that are administered at school (albuterol). The school nurse does not administer steroids or asthma daily medications. These medications must be given before and after school. Albuterol will not be given every four hours, it has to be given as needed only according to the FDA and doctors orders. As a reminder, any student who feels that he/she needs an inhaler will be assessed as per protocol. Our health room is run just as any other urgent care / emergency visit. We have a triage system, treatment protocols, assessment protocols, and reevaluation protocols. Each child MUST go through the process.
Thank you in advance.
Antoinette Myers BSN,RN/ School Nurse.

Reminder about snacks and food brought to school
As we prioritize the health and safety of all students at CAP, we kindly remind you to consider allergies when sending snacks and food to school with your child. Allergies to common ingredients such as peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, and gluten can pose serious risks to students with sensitivities. We encourage you to choose snacks that are free from common allergens or provide alternative options that accommodate diverse dietary needs. By working together, we can create a safe and inclusive environment where all students can enjoy snack time without worry. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community safe.
