This Week at Windsor...

Windsor Families,

We had a busy week at Windsor! It was fun to see all of the school spirit each day with sports day, pajama day, etc! Picture day was Tuesday and on Thursday we practiced a shelter in place and an evacuation drill. The students all were quick and quiet as we practiced these important drills.

Just a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday. We will see everyone on Tuesday!

Arrival/dismissal-

- Please be sure that you have cleared the intersection before your child gets out at the Miner/Windsor intersection.

-Please remind your child that if they ride their bike to school, they will need to walk their bikes when on school property.

- Students are not permitted to play on the playground prior to school.

- There is no supervision prior to 8:50 am, please do not drop children off prior to 8:50 am.

- There are no pets allowed on school property during school hours, we have students with allergies and/or fear of animals. For the safety of all students, please do not bring pets to arrival/dismissal.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation with all of the above important procedures. We also recommend that you pass this information along to anyone that transports your child to and/or from school.

If your child will be absent or tardy, please call the main line and listen for the prompts, 847-398-4297. You can also complete this online form: CLICK HERE TO REPORT AN ABSENCE ONLINE. While you may also email the teacher, there are times that the teacher will not read email prior to school starting. Please always leave a message first. We cannot stress this enough. Please also make every effort for your child to arrive at school on time. Missing the beginning of the school day often has a negative impact on students for the rest of the day. Please contact the office if your child will be tardy or needs to leave early.

We hope that you will become a member of our very active PTA. We are extremely proud of the partnership that we have with the PTA and are so appreciative of all the work they do for Windsor School. The ABC/25 Foundation (http://abc25foundation.com/) is another way to become involved. The Foundation supports the schools within the district with both large and small grants each school year.

Hi! My name is Kelly Loch, and I am a part of Windsor’s 2nd grade team! This is my eighth year teaching in District 25. I student taught at Windsor in 3rd grade and in a K-1 instructional classroom. The following school year I started my career in 2nd grade and have been here ever since! I have a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education, as well as a Master’s Degree from the American College of Education in ESL and Bilingual Education.

When I am not at school, I love spending time with my family and friends. My hobbies include taking on house projects with my fiance, Mike, walking my dog, Milo, painting, bike riding, hiking, and spending time at a family lake house in Wisconsin.

Seeking any and all suggestions for a new class name for next school year as my new name will be Mrs. Wiest! It’s bittersweet turning the page on the Lochness Learner chapter! :)

My name is Lisa Swedo and I am teaching 2nd grade this year at Windsor. I have been teaching for 22 years. I have taught Bilingual Spanish, EL and Kindergarten-5th grade. I started my teaching career in Wheeling, went to Palatine and then came to Arlington Heights, where I have worked at Windsor and Ivy Hill. I have my masters in Curriculum and Instruction.

I have 3 kids and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but one is a freshman in high school, one in junior high and one in 5th grade! I definitely keep busy after school driving them around to all their after school sports and activities!

Hello! My name is Christina Dastice. This is my tenth year of teaching. My first year was spent teaching 5th and 6th grade Balanced Literacy at a STEM Magnet school in Nashville, TN. The rest of my teaching career has been spent at Windsor School. I started in 2nd grade, taught 5th grade for 7 years, and am proud to be a part of the 2nd grade team at Windsor again!

I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Elmhurst University in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in psychology. I have a Masters of Arts degree from Lipscomb University in Instructional Practice and an endorsement in ESL. I am currently in my second year of working toward my National Board Teacher Certification.

I live in Arlington Heights with my husband and two kids (3 and 1) and our dog, Zeke. Some of my hobbies include reading, cooking, going on walks, going to museums, going out to eat around town, and playing board games with my family.

This is my 17th year of teaching and second year at Windsor! (I took a total of 4 years off to raise my kids). I’ve taught many grades over the years including 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6/7th reading/language arts, and K-5 gifted education. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Iowa in 2001 and my Master’s Degree in Reading from Roosevelt University in 2008. I have a reading specialist certificate, a middle school endorsement, and a gifted education verification.

My 3 children are Gibson (11), Graham (9), and Analia (6). Anthony is my husband, and we’ve been married for 16 years. He’s also a teacher and teaches English at Rolling Meadows High School. When the Bears play at home, his side job is being the “Green Hat” on the sidelines!

In my spare time I love to watch my son’s travel baseball team and my daughter’s soccer games. I also enjoy doing yoga, shopping, cooking, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends. My favorites are polar bears, Labrador Retrievers, the beach/pool/lake, and summer weather.

Hello Windsor Families!

Please pack a ziplock bag with a change of clothes for your child to keep in their backpack!

The health office is limited with the amount of clothing to borrow. Accidents can happen from Mud puddles and milk spills, etc. We know you don’t want to be called to bring clothes!

Next week we will begin to start conducting our hearing and vision screenings. This is mandated by the state of Illinois. Hearing Screenings will take place for students in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, new to the district and those with IEPs. Vision screenings will take place for students in K and 2nd, new to the district and those with IEPs. Please contact myself or Kimmy Solano if you have any questions!

Jewish New Year and holy days. Days of Renewed Responsibility and the first of the High Holy Days. The traditional greeting during Rosh Hashanah is the phrase “Shanah tovah,” which translates to “Good year.”

Here’s a fun DIY art toy that can extend your child’s geometry skills at home. Check out these magnetic mosaics. All you need is a color printer and 4” by 6” adhesive magnetic sheets. I love the idea of having our Wildcats play with these on a cookie sheet and play with design and geometry!
