Hello Levelland Lobos!
It is a new week and this means there are many new possibilities for excellence. Our Lobo Band will compete in their marching contest on Saturday in Lubbock. We would love to pack the stands to support these students and their sponsors. We wish them the best of luck! This will be a short school week as Friday is a district holiday. Students will also be off next Monday and staff will have a work day.
Have a great week!
Go Lobos!

Lobo Excellence Award
Levelland ISD has started our Lobo Excellence Award! It is a new community connections project where we honor two local businesses for their support each month! We surprise their business with goodies from the LMS Lobo Diner, a Lobo Flag and Pole, and a photo op. This month started with HCCU and Smith Family Auto this month. We appreciate the help that HCCU and Smith Family Auto have given to Levelland ISD. HCCU and Smith Family Auto #expectexcellence and are always giving back to Levelland ISD kids and employees. It might be in a parade, continuously cooking for our staff, giving oil changes on campus, helping with finances & purchasing vehicles, and more. It takes a village to support our students and we appreciate these two businesses for your continued support! Thank you!
Outstanding Achievement Award
LHS #expectsexcellence and is so proud to share that the College Board has honored LHS Junior Ada Neiderhauser for her outstanding Academic Achievement. She earned the National Rural & Small Town Recognition for her PSAT scores. Ada is active in Band, Academic UIL, NHS, and YELL. She is busy, but she stays focused on her studies as well. Way to go, Ada! You are going places!
BBQ Team Going to State
Our Levelland High School BBQ Team is going to State in May! These students in Mrs. Khris Oaks' BBQ Team are over-achievers and have great work ethics. They often cook long before the roosters crow, preparing and tweaking their dishes to excellence! They competed at the Regional Level and made "the cut!" We are so excited for our BBQ Team and the opportunity they will have for a career upon leaving LHS! Mrs. Oaks' goal is to enrich the culinary studies of her students through this dynamic, engaging, educational BBQ program through project-based learning so that they will receive scholarships for continued education! Thank you, Mrs. Oaks, for your early mornings, guidance, and wisdom in the cooking world. Great mob pit-masters! We are proud of you! https://files.gabbart.com/456/bbqvideooct24.mp4
Little Red Hen Teaches a Lesson
ABC Kindergarteners in Mrs. Stacie Black's class read The Little Red Hen and The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza. Then, they compared the two stories before each making their own pizza in the classroom. What a great way to learn about hard work, doing your part, helping others, and responsibility! Thank you, Mrs. Black, for a lesson unforgotten, and a tasty snack!
Family Fitness Night
Capitol Elementary and PE Teacher Kristy Sanders are hosted their Family Fitness Night last week. Our Lobo Basketball Boys are on hand giving expert advice. Students get to sign up to win an autographed Basketball before sharpening all their Basketball skills like dribbling and shooting. Thank you to Capitol, Mrs. Sanders, Coach Durrett, and our Lobos for making this a fun night!
National Dyslexia Day Celebration
South Elementary students celebrated National Dyslexia Day yesterday with Dyslexic Teacher Mrs. Alexis Gavina. Mrs. Gavina read the book Cartwheels by Tracy Peterson. In the book, Sloane finds her special kind of smart. Everyone wore red for the special day, and students painted hearts for awareness and their special brains while eating a package of red Skittles with all colors inside--just like our brains. Most people with dyslexia have above-average IQs, but dyslexia is a learning disability that makes it difficult to read or write. Our LISD students are beyond lucky to have teachers on every campus who help them succeed! Thank you Mrs. Gavina, for the awareness and extra help!
Annual Ag Awareness Day
We love that our Capitol and South 4th-graders are always invited to join at the Hockley County Extension Agency Ag Awareness Day each year. Students learned about many agricultural aspects around them that they will start noticing. They learned how to bandage a hurt animal and about animal organs with the Vet Students. Students learned about water conservation and soil erosion. They learned about several different crops and how cotton is ginned. They petted a cow and her calf while learning about cattle. Keep Levelland Beautiful reminded them to reduce litter to keep the crops clean, and they learned about eating healthy. It was a great day of learning about what is all around our community! Thank you to the Hockley County Extension Agency for hosting this event! https://files.gabbart.com/462/agawarenessday24.mp4
Winning at the South Plains Fair
LHS & LMS students in Mrs. Melissa Young's Lobo Diner classes baked cookies for their South Plains Fair Entrees. Many had the tastiest treats and were awarded with money and medals! Thank you to HCCU for cashing the reward checks for our winning students! It was fun to get paid for hard work. Thank you to Mrs. Young & Mrs. Burt for providing these exceptional experiences! You can see the fun they had in the video attached!
Suicide Prevention
LHS Counselors Mrs. Parkinson and Mrs. Waddill held their annual Freshman Suicide Prevention Assembly recently in conjunction with Fight Another Day. Fight Another Day is dedicated to bringing mental health resources such as crisis information and speakers to schools across Texas. Together, we can make the mental health stigma fade away so kids will choose to fight another day. These ladies taught Freshmen that pain is real, but so is hope. We send out a huge thank you to our amazing Counselors for their dedication to making students better every day.
Lobo Band Success
LHS Band Director Michael Cason and Assistant Band Director Matthew Tolentino share that our Lobo Band did a great job at the Westerner Marching Festival! The band placed 3rd in the 4A band category. Color Guard placed 4th in the 3A/4A caption, and Percussion was 8th in the 3A/4A caption. Mr. Cason says, "I am very proud of the work we have done! The judges have some great comments. They all agree we are close to breaking through to the next level." Now, they will push forward to UIL! Congratulations to our Lobo Band and Color Guard!

Future Christian Athletes
LHS Coach Whitney Gibson says, "What a great night!" Earlier this week she & Coach Braziel took over 40 students to FCA Fields of Faith event. She says, "I’m so thankful for the opportunity to help bring these students around others who are growing their hearts for Jesus. We had several get saved, several rededicate their hearts, and others who were there to support, pray for, and love on their friends." We are thankful for our amazing FCA organization. We send out a big thank you to Coach Gibson & Braziel for sponsoring our students and for always being such a positive role model for these kids! Coach Gibson has already seen these kids do so many amazing things, and she can’t wait to continue watching them grow!
