An important message from our school nurse:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The medication guidelines for school are as follows:
1. Medication bottle, inhaler or container should have a pharmacy label with the child’s name on it.
2. There are 2 forms that must be completed prior to the nurse dispensing the medication. One is a physician form and the other is the parent permission form. Both need to be completed prior to the child receiving the medication. The physician form gives the nurse permission to give the medication while your child is at school.
3. Children in elementary school are unable to carry medication with them at school. This includes any medication even over the counter medication.
4. If a child will need to take medication on a daily basis even if it is over the counter medication there needs to be a physician order to do so and then the parent must complete the parent form. Both forms need to complete in order to give permission for the nurse to dispense the medication. If this medication is tylenol, motrin, or any over the counter medication and the child will need to take frequently or more than just as needed, the parent must provide the medication since the nurse’s office has a limited amount.
When to keep a child home from school:
1. Any child who has a fever 100 or above should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
2. Any child who has vomited should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting.
Please see the student handbook for full details about illnesses and when to stay home from school regarding illness.
Injuries or use of crutches, cast or immobilizers: Please inform the school in regard to any injury that your child has sustained and has need of any of these items. A doctor note must be provided in order to make accommodations while your child is at school.
Please call the school nurse if there are any questions regarding any of the above issues.

School Nurse
