Cahaba's 2024 Fairy Tale Ball

In 2016, the Fairy Tale Ball became a yearly tradition here at Cahaba. We began this 2024-2025 school year with a focus on reading and comparing fairy tales. We included nursery rhymes to enhance each fairy tale with a focus on rhyming words and rhythm. Through fairy tale books and planned activities, our youngest learners have gone on a magical learning ride this year. All subject areas have been integrated into this project. Thus, turning our fairy tale reading into a Project Based learning experience. Our kindergarten has engaged in STEM and STEAM activities while collaborating with our specialists to add an extra component to their learning. We visited castles using VRs with our media specialist and learned to code using BeBots to retell the story of The Three Little Pigs. In music, our princes and princesses learned about medieval music and instruments. They learned to dance a minuet which they taught their guests at the Fairy Tale Ball. In art, they designed and created castle drawings and a portrait of a king/queen. To end our learning, we hosted a Fairy Tale Ball in which all of our students and teachers dressed as characters from a fairy tale. The students walked the red carpet in a processional and danced a minuet which they taught their guests. It's been an amazing learning experience for these kindergarten students.

Magnolia Celebrates Veterans Magnolia Celebrates Veterans

Magnolia Celebrates Veterans Day

Under the direction of Mr. Danny Moore, Magnolia Elementary Music Teacher, the 4th and 5th grade Magnolia choirs presented a tribute to Veterans in a spectacular Veterans Day Choir Concert. As Veterans entered the gymnasium, they were invited to take a paper origami poppy carefully crafted by the fourth and fifth grade students in Mrs. Jessica DeWitt's art classes. Presenting first in the program was the Trussville Ukulele Strummers who performed "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Contributing a striking visual element to the concert was Mrs. DeWitt and the Magnolia Art Club students, who displayed their portraits of Veterans. Additionally, artwork created by Mrs. DeWitt's second grade art classes served as backdrops for the concert and Veterans' photos.

Magnolia was honored to have Mr. Aaron King, HTHS Principal, Veteran, and graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, as the guest speaker for this event. During the concert, the Magnolia Choir sang the following: "We Celebrate America", "Armed Forces Medley", "America, My Country 'Tis of Thee", "Put Your Hand on Your Heart", and "We Will Not Forget." Adding to the concert was Max, HTMS student, who played a moving rendition of "Taps." A highlight of the performance was when Veterans attending the concert stood and were recognized with an applause from the audience during the singing of the Armed Forces Medley.

Thank you to Mrs. Shannon Moore, HTHS and HTMS Associate Director of Bands, who ran the sound system for the entire concert; to the Trussville Ukulele Strummers, who performed during the concert; and to Dr. Phyllis Faust, principal, for coordinating the logistics of the program and allowing this special event to run smoothly.

After the concert, Veterans were invited to attend a reception in their honor. Thank you to the Magnolia PTO for providing the refreshments and beautiful patriotic decorations that made the event even more special.

God bless America!

HTMS Girls in Engineering Students Test their Designs HTMS Girls in Engineering Students Test their Designs

HTMS Girls in Engineering

This week, our HTMS Girls in Engineering students took a field trip to the high school for their first event of the year! Members of the iCan program at Southern Company led several hands-on activities focused on core engineering disciplines. The girls designed, created, and modeled their own shoes! Each group got to experience the "engineering process" of designing, testing, and redesigning. This year will be filled with opportunities for them to learn and grow as future engineers!
