PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, January 13th
Happy New Year and welcome back everyone! I hope you had a wonderful and restful break! I am so ready to see all the amazing things that 2023 is going to bring.....and I am already looking forward to Spring! We have truly enjoyed the weather this week and appreciated this week's weather to the weather we experienced prior to winter break. It has been wonderful to see all our Panthers back at Patton and hear about their fun activities during their time away.
Please remember that we have a short week next week - there will be no school on Monday 16th January! I hope you all enjoy the long weekend and I look forward to seeing the students back at school on Tuesday!
Best,
Ellie Chin

ERIN'S LAW
Erin’s Law, Illinois Public Act 097-Â1147, requires public schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education for students in early childhood through tweltfh grades. During January and February, our school social workers will work with each grade level to provide age Âappropriate information.
Erin’s Law information can be found on the District’s website including the optional opt-out form. If you would like to complete the opt-out form, please submit it to the front office no later than the morning of Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. We have extended the original deadline (Wednesday, January 11th) as we know things can get busy leading up to Winter Break and we wanted to ensure that anyone wishing to opt out had the time to do so.
NO SCHOOL - MONDAY, JANUARY 16th - MLK Jr. Day
2023/2024 DISTRCT CALENDAR
The district has released the school calendar for the 2023/2024 school year! We hope this helps with any vacation planning you may be starting!! You can find a printable version here.
Student Devices
We need your help! With the increase of students wearing smart watches and trackers, we have seen an uptick in students using these devices to communicate with others, including parents, during the school day. Please note that the Parent/Student Handbook (page 33) prohibits using these devices during the school day unless given permission by school personnel.
Students should refrain from reaching out to friends or family members using their devices during the school day. If you need to share information with your child, please call the office and we will get the message to your child. Please remind your child to share with teachers if they are not feeling well and need to see the nurse. Mrs. Pecora will assess the student’s health and reach out to parents accordingly. If there is anything that you think is important for us to know about your child, please communicate with your child’s teacher, Mrs. Pecora, and/or the front office so we can be aware and support your child as needed.
Please remind your child that their smart watches should not be used for communication during the school day. Please also share this information with any other family members who may be communicating with your child. Cell phones should also be off and in backpacks during the school day.
Additionally, some of our students who are enjoying their new devices are receiving notifications or have alarms going off during the school day. Students are not always familiar with how to navigate their new devices and turn these off. Please work with your child to ensure there are not notifications or alarms that will go off during the day which can be distracting to your child and their classmates.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
