Last week our chics hatched! Students had an opportunity observe the eggs in an incubator. They learned the importance of temperature and we all waited with anticipation as the first hatchling appeared (followed by 10 others). Our chics have now returned to their farm! Thank you Mrs. Bennett, SRO J.P. Saverance and First Grade students for an awesome Bird Exploration!
We have a traveling exhibit from Kennesaw State University with ten panels of information about the Tuskegee Airmen, along with a World War II Museum in a Box from the Museum School in Avondale Estates.
"The Tuskegee Airmen" exhibit explores the history and heroism of the first African American pilots to fly in combat during World War II. Between 1941 and 1946, what became known as the “Tuskegee experiment” trained more than 1,000 pilots. Although required to train and fight in segregated units, the Tuskegee Airmen proved to be some of the most skilled aviators during the war.
The undeniable courage and skill of these brave pilots contributed to the desegregation of the United States Armed Forces in 1948. This exhibit offers a look into the historical challenges and triumphs of these unsung American heroes.
We also have artifacts such as a first-aid kit, posters, uniforms and other items from the Museum in a Box.
All families are invited to drop by and view the museum from 4:00-6:00 on Thursday, March 28th; before and after the Parent Night for our 3rd-5th grade families to learn more about the Milestones Testing. The museum is mostly for our older students in 3rd-5th grade, all history buffs and of course especially for all of our fifth graders who study WWII in their Social Studies curriculum. ~ Ms. Martinez, FDES Media Specialist
Georgia Milestones' Schedule
The Milestones EOG is administered to 3rd – 8th grade students each spring. All grades will take English/Language Arts and Mathematics Assessments. Fifth graders also take a Science assessment and 8th graders take assessments in Science and Social Studies. The results of these tests provide information about the student’s readiness for the next grade level.
April 22-24: ELA for 3rd-5th
April 29-30: Math for 3rd-5th
May 2: Science for 5th
Please make sure these dates are on your calendar to avoid scheduling appointments or trips for your child during these important testing days. It is important for your students to be present daily on the testing days. The testing environment plays a big part in the students’ performance when they are testing with their peers.
This schedule will give you advance notice should you need to make appointments for your child. Students arriving late will not be able to report to their classrooms after the testing start time begins.~ Thank You!
