Field Flash
May 24, 2024
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We hope you've had a nice week. As a reminder, we do not have school on Monday in honor of Memorial Day. Thank you for coming to the Book Fair - it was a huge success!
Our Field Day is coming up! This is a special end-of-school event where students participate in various movement and teamwork activities. Please be sure to review this information below:
Field Day Tuesday, June 4
We are very excited for our upcoming Field Day on Tuesday, June 4! The entire school will be participating together for the day, with lunchtime as usual. Parents, please send your child to school dressed appropriately for being outside most of the day, including gym shoes, sunscreen (apply in advance), a hat, and water bottle. Parents may view our event anywhere outside the fence of Northeast Park north of Field School, but keep in mind that your child must stay with their group. In case of inclement weather, our rain date is Wednesday, June 5.
A few important reminders are listed below:
Students in grades 2-5 will keep their Chromebooks over the summer this year. You are welcome to view this student-created video about expectations and use.
As a reminder, students who have smart watches may not use this during the school day. An Apple Watch has to be in "schooltime". If you need to be in touch with your child, please call the main office and we can relay a message. There is more information about this in our handbook.
PLEASE leave your dogs at home during drop off and pick up. We've had a few scary interactions lately with big dogs and adults/children.
The school calendar for next school year (2024-2025) is published on the District website: https://www.d64.org/about/calendar-overview. Please be sure to review it prior to making summer plans. Students first day of school is August 14th.
You can access your child's report card via these instructions: PowerSchool Parent Portal Directions to see Report Cards
Have a wonderful three-day weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman
Principal

The Green Team - School Supply Clean Out
It’s time to sort out school supplies! The Field Green Team would like to encourage all families to help students sort through their school supplies by
Reusing as many of their school supplies as possible for the next school year. Check out these lists.
Donating any gently used school supplies like notebooks, folders, writing & drawing utensils, rulers, pencil cases, etc. Field School will have a donation box inside near the office. We will also have a drop box at 12 N. Merrill June 6th-June 14th and will take the items to Scarce an organization who works to reduce waste and give back to students everywhere.
Recycling all paper products (notebooks/folders). Just make sure to remove any metal parts.
Thank you for helping make the world a greener place!

A Message From Dr. Collins: Master Facilities Plan
For the past six months, we have been taking a hard look at our Master Facilities Plan and the needs our students and staff have now and in the future. Through many meetings with staff, community stakeholders, law enforcement, and our architects, we have identified areas where our safety, security, health, critical infrastructure, and, in some cases, classrooms are not meeting our current and future needs. Our school district has done everything possible to address these issues without our current budget, and we are at the point where we are considering doing major renovations in these areas with additional funding in the form of a referendum in the future.
The School Board will make a decision later this summer about which path we will take forward, and to be transparent about our needs, we are hosting the following community engagement events, where I will lay out the issues we face and our proposed solutions. Each one of these sessions will include time for Q&A. If you plan on attending any event, please RSVP so we can plan and have the proper setup.
We have also designed a webpage that provides information, past presentations, and other useful tools that we want to share with you. To help our community better understand the state of our facilities, we have made video tours of our buildings, the first one of which is a look at Lincoln Middle School. Those resources can be found at d64.org/2024proposal. As we continue exploring this possibility, you can always reach out to me directly with any questions at bcollins@d64.org.
Our schools are community resources that have existed for nearly 100 years (Roosevelt, Field, and Lincoln will all turn 100 soon), and we want to protect our buildings, protect our children, and preserve our future.
