A Message from the Principal, Mrs. Finch
As you can tell with all of the pictures in this newsletter, October was packed with fun, learning, and new experiences.
FUNd Run
Thank you to everyone for all the support for the FUNd Run. We raised $27,000. The playground equipment the students voted for is $67,000, so we will continue to raise money or go with a less expensive piece of equipment.
Food Drive
Webster Elementary is collecting non-perishable food for the local Salvation Army from Nov. 1-15. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn empathy and community service.
Unplug to Engage - Screen Time
A section called "Unplug to Engage" will be included in the Wildcat Chat each month. It will share ideas to encourage conversation, development, and learning while disconnecting from screens. Multiple research resources have proven that screen time for children has negative impacts that include:
- obesity - irregular sleep - behavior problems - impaired academic performance - violence
- less time to play - decreases creativity - affects language development - emotional understanding
The recommended screen time for elementary children is "No more than an hour a day, while engaging in conversation with a parent or family member about what is being viewed." (Yang)

New Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA)
We are thrilled to welcome Angela Conway to Webster Elementary as our new TOSA. Mrs. Elliott is now the Dean at The Haven. Mrs. Conway has extensive experience in early childhood, behavior coaching, and administration. We are excited that Mrs. Conway is a Wildcat!!!
New MFLC
Stacy Hladek is a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) who supports Webster Elementary. She began as the MFLC in October and will be located in the school building during regular school hours.
Stacy has a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado. The majority of her 30 years of experience in the counseling field has been working with children ages birth to eighteen and their families. She has supervised other counselors in children and family programs over those years.
Stacy indicated one of the things she is most proud of is that she is the daughter of a 22-year veteran of the Army. She lived in three duty stations overseas while growing up and has personal experience with being a military child and all that encompasses. She is excited and considers it a privilege to support our service members, their partners and children.
Please reach out to her with any questions, supports, or concerns at hladekstacy@wsd3.org.
