Strongsville City Schools are hiring for a number of different positions in our District. Per recent state legislation, SCS will sponsor temporary Substitute Teacher licensure to individuals holding less than a bachelor's degree for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year. Ideal candidates are those with any post secondary coursework in the area of education or those with experience working with children in a group setting. The SHS Fall Play, Almost, Maine will take the stage TONIGHT (Fri. 11/12) and TOMORROW (Sat. 11/13) at 7pm in the SHS Auditorium. Congratulations to SHS Sophomore Dean Upholzer for earning the Northern Ohio Junior Tour PGA Player of the Year (Boys Age 11-15) Award. Dean played in 21 Junior Tour events and earned a total of 4,370 points, the largest point total in Jr. Tour history. Dean won 9 events, also a record-setting number in Jr. Tour history. Dean placed 2nd in 7 events & was not out of the top ten in all 21 tournaments he competed in. Dean made a total of 41 birdies which was the most in his age division & overall for all boys divisions. Dean’s low round of the year was a 69 at Chippewa Golf Club.

Ms. Denise Shaneyfelt is a Special Education Aide at Whitney Elementary. Ms. Shaneyfelt has worked at a variety of our schools, at both the elementary and secondary levels, during her 21 year career in our District. A resident of Strongsville for 28 years, Ms. Shaneyfelt’s two children are also graduates of Strongsville High School.

“I love working in Special Education with a variety of students. Being connected with students in most grade levels at Whitney allows me to see the students grow year to year in all areas of their development. I am most proud of working with our 5th grade students and teaching them independence, as they get ready for middle school. Whitney Elementary staff are like family to me - I love it here because we work well together,” said Ms. Shaneyfelt.

The SHS Dance Team presents the 4th Annual Junior Dance Team Clinic on Wednesday, November 24 from 12pm - 3pm at Strongsville High School. The Clinic is open to dancers in grades 1-8 and participants will participate in a halftime dance team performance at an upcoming SHS Varsity Basketball Game. Congratulations to SHS Seniors Libby Majka and Coley Sidloski for earning spots on the East Team in the high school All-American soccer game in Knoxville, TN next month. Libby and Coley are two of the 43 elite high school girls soccer student-athletes selected to play.

The Strongsville Athletic Boosters are selling raffle tickets to win a 2022 Chevy Trailblazer LS AWD donated by Serpentini Chevrolet of Strongsville. The vehicle is on display in front of the SCS bus lot on Pearl Road. Tickets may be purchased for $20 each. All proceeds benefit Strongsville Athletics. The raffle drawing will be held on December 3, 2021 at the Strongsville High School Boys Basketball Game. This year, a 2nd Place Prize of $500 and a 3rd Place Prize of $100 will also be awarded! Our District is excited to announce a partnership agreement with the nationally recognized school enrichment provider, Right At School, to provide before- and after-school care for elementary students for the 2021-22 school year. Right at School will be offering before- and after-school care every weekday (Monday-Friday) at each of the elementary school buildings in our District. The Strongsville Police Department is now hiring school crossing guards. Interested individuals must be at least 18 years of age, of good moral character, and have the ability to remain outdoors in all types of weather conditions for up to one (1) hour. English as a Second Language. IN PERSON Thursdays & Fridays from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Aspire Greater Cleveland is once again teaching IN-PERSON classes to help non-native speakers learn English and validate their skills. Students must attend an ESOL/Citizenship orientation session before beginning ESOL or citizenship classes. Computer Classes Cuyahoga County Public Library offers computer classes for beginners to advanced. Classes are currently being held in-person as well as some VIRTUALLY using the program Screenleap which requires a web browser and an internet connection. There is no additional software to download. Google Chrome is the recommended browser. A valid email address is required for registration. Registrants will receive an email with a link to join the class at least an hour before the start time. Intro to Indian Classical Music. Tuesday, November 23rd / 7:00 p.m. Sugata Chatterjee will perform the ancient form of “raaga” which is the melodic framework for improvisation akin to a melodic mode in Indian classical music.
