Letter from the Principal
Dear SJRCs Families,
Lent is a special time for prayer, penance, sacrifice, and good works in preparation for the celebration of Easter. At Ash Wednesday Mass, we witness members of our community, including parents, staff, and students, performing acts of kindness, bravery, generosity, and selflessness to aid a community member promptly and effectively in need. We are grateful to our parents and trained staff for providing assistance. Thank you for reflecting the love and compassion that God calls us to share with others.
During the season of Lent, here is a suggestion of something you can do with your children at home. On Ash Wednesday, set out a glass jar for each child with a small copy of the jellybean prayer taped to it. Determine a behavior to go with each jellybean color (ideas are included below). Each day the children could earn a jellybean of any color they followed through on, but they cannot eat the jellybeans until Easter.
Here are examples of how to interpret each color. You can make your own ideas based on the ages and needs of your children.
Red is for the blood Christ gave (Each morning we chose something to sacrifice that day to earn the red jellybean.)
Green is for the palm's cool shade (Green jellybeans are earned for good deeds.)
Yellow is for God's light so bright (Yellow jellybeans are earned for sharing God's light through kindness to others)
Orange is for prayers at twilight (Orange jellybeans are earned for attentive behavior during bedtime prayer time and nighttime bible story)
Black is for sweet rest at night (These are earned for going to bed without a fuss.)
White is for the Grace of Christ (These cannot be earned, but are added to their jellybeans on Easter Sunday.)
Purple is for His days of sorrow (They earn these by apologizing to anyone they hurt with their words or deeds that day.)
Pink is for each new tomorrow (Pink jellybeans are earned when we forgive those who apologize to us for hurtful behavior.)
Why not pair good behavior during Lent with jellybeans and see what type of positive reaction you can get from your children?
Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength
In the Spirit of Lent,
Kim Hanner, Principal
Uniform Shoe Reminder
Summer Uniform: White or gray sneakers (standard ankle tennis shoes, no mid-top or high-top shoes).
Winter Uniform: Dress shoes or Sperry shoes (navy blue, brown, black); No sneakers, platform shoes, “Hey Dude” casual style shoes, or “clog” style shoes.
Girls' Skirt Reminder
Students are encouraged to wear uniforms to maintain a positive academic environment within the school. It is important that students take pride in their appearance as it reflects their conduct and schoolwork. However, we have noticed that many skorts are not of proper length. Students are reminded that skorts should be no shorter than two inches above the knee, and the undershorts should not be visible through the slit of the skort. Therefore, kindly check the length of your child's skort and take the necessary action if they are too short.
Re-Enrollment Deadline Quickly Approaching
The re-enrollment process for current students at SJRCS for the 2024-2025 school year has already begun. It is crucial for us to know which students intend to return before we start accepting new applications. To secure a spot for your child/children next year, please submit the Re-Enrollment Form and registration fee electronically through your SchoolAdmin parent portal account. Please make sure to do this before February 29th, as we will begin filling spots from our waitlist at that time. Thank you to the families that have already submitted their re-enrollment decision for next year! Please reach out to Christine Bean at cbean@sjrcs.org with any questions or concerns.
