Breaking barriers, creating communities
Program Information
Selected teachers will participate in 12 hours of professional development focused on culturally responsive teaching, community awareness, art literacy and student-centered learning and engagement. The workshops will take place Saturdays, Jan. 25 and April 4, 9am - 3pm. Teachers will partner with a classroom from a different demographic to plan collaboration experiences for their students.
Students participate in a 3-week curriculum centered on sharing personal stories through reading and writing inquiry. Developmentally and age-appropriate mentor texts are used to foster learning related to community, one another and ourselves.Through a variety of interactive experiences, students engage in close reading, research, argument, blended writing, civic engagement and identity development.
