Message from the Principal
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to each of you. Your support and involvement in our school community make a significant difference in the lives of our students.
No School next week (November 25-29). We will see you on Monday, December 2nd!
Season of Gratitude
As we enter this season of gratitude, we invite you to take a moment to thank a staff member who has made a positive impact on your child’s experience.
A small note of appreciation can go a long way in brightening their day.
Food Drive
Thank you to everyone who donated food and winter items this month!
The donation will go to the Des Plaines Self Help Closet to support families in our community!
Learning Look In
Spanish Field Trip
The 8th grade Spanish classes visited the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago this week.
NMMA stands out as one of the most prominent first-voice institutions for Mexican art and culture in the US, home to one of the country’s largest Mexican art collections, including more than 7,000 pieces from ancient Mexico to the present.
Wagner Farm Field Trip
Three Chippewa classes got to visit Wagner Farm this week!
Here's some of the things they got to do:
- Collect eggs, step inside a two-story silo, and browse a 1930s grocery story while exploring the interactive exhibits in the Heritage Center
- Dig in a sandbox, swing on a tire, and learn as you play at the Ag Adventure area, a unique hybrid between a traditional playground and an interactive agricultural education exhibit
- Observe livestock and poultry in pastures, sheds, and coops
- Learn about the seasonality of produce and crops by discovering what’s growing on the farm
- Visit the 1920s farmhouse and help out with the domestic chores
Newcomer Thanksgiving
Students in the Newcomer program learned all about American Thanksgiving this week and took time to share about what they are thankful for.
Drama Class
7th Grade Drama has just wrapped up their pantomime unit by creating silent films! The students wrote, filmed, edited, and screened films for their classes. Officer Stonequist even stopped in to help our students record some scenes with his police truck!
Students were able to vote in the "Silent Film Awards" to award their classmates with "Best Actor", "Best Actress", "Best Editing", and "Best Film". The winners received a special "signed celebrity photo" from A-List Celebrities!
8th Grade Science
Students learned about friction and wind resistance while they competed in "turkey races" on Friday.
8th Grade ELA
As a culminating project for the book "Refugee" by Alan Gratz, three stories of young refugees seeking safety and a new life, students made their own rafts and tested how much weight they could hold.
6th Grade Science
Timing out nicely with our first snow fall this week, 6th grade students have been studying weather patterns, warm and cold fronts, and precipitation.

Chippewa had a great time dressing up for spirit week and now we are ready for break!
