It was wonderful to see so many KRS families at the KRS Back-to-School Night! We are looking forward to a productive and positive partnership as we work together this school year to support your child. Please view my back-to-school night presentation that was shared with families earlier this week.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Welcome back to the Art Room!
Welcome back to the Art Room!
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! I enjoyed some time traveling and relaxing! I am so happy to see all of the wonderful KRS students!
In September the art room is working on a fundraiser for the The Seeing Eye of Morristown. Stay tuned for more information to come….
Students in all grades are learning about Surrealist art. Kindergarten and First Grade students are focused on the work of Rene Magritte, while Second through Fifth graders are learning about Salvador Dali.
Ask your child to tell you about Surrealist art!
Star Assessments
Our first window of Star administration is occurring during the month of September. The Star assessments are diagnostic assessments designed to provide educators and parents with important information about a student's progress. Students in grades 1-5 take the Star reading and/or early literacy assessment as well as the Star mathematics assessment benchmarked for their specific grade. To read general information about the Star assessments, parents are encouraged to visit their family resources page.
Kindergarten teachers administer the Star CBMs (Curriculum Based Measures) in both reading and mathematics. The Fall kindergarten reading assessments assess a student's understanding of letters and their sounds, basic phonological awareness, and early decoding. The kindergarten math assessments include recognizing numerals and their value. Often times the CBMs may be administered in other grade levels, on an as-needed individual basis. For more information regarding the Star CBMs, please click here.
Madison SEPAG
The Madison SEPAG (Special Education Parent Advisory Group), is an advisory group of parents with children involved with the Special Services Department in the Madison Public Schools.
SEPAG Fall Meetings:
Tues, Oct 8 @ 7 pm - MHS auditorium, Mrs. Budine and Mr. Mullen will host "Special Ed from the Inside Out"
Wed, Nov 13 @ 7 pm via Zoom, SEPAG meeting
School Visitors
For security purposes, school visitors are required to notify the office prior to their visit. Visitors will sign-in at the office and will receive a visitor’s lanyard to wear during the duration of the visit. At the conclusion of the visit, visitors must sign-out in the office and return the lanyard. It is important that visitors not use their cell phone for any reason while in the school classrooms and hallways.
No Place for Hate
Great news! Kings Road School is once again a No Place for Hate School. During the school year, Mr. Levine will conduct No Place for Hate activities with the students. Our first activity will include students reciting and committing to the No Place for Hate pledge.
Kings Road School PAWS for Good Character
The PTO has graciously supported a grant for a reinforcement system at Kings Road School to motivate students to engage in behavior that is within a targeted character trait each month. Students will receive tickets throughout the school day with their name on it for being "caught" engaging in behavior that we want to see increase. For September, we are catching students being "kind." Each ticket will count toward a chance/opportunity to be selected for the month. The students that are selected, will have an opportunity to take part in a pizza party (with consent from parents/guardians), and have their name recognized on the announcements as well as on our beautiful bulletin board in the gym/cafeteria. Everyone at KRS is excited to motivate our students, as well as contribute to making our school a positive environment!
Code of Conduct, Pledge, Bullying
During the first week of school, Dr. Koop and Mr. Levine reviewed the definition of bullying with the students. In the month of September, Mr. Levine and Dr. Koop will visit all classrooms to review the KRS Code of Conduct and the No Place for Hate pledge. Mr. Levine will continue the discussion throughout the school year during the class guidance lessons. Please review the Code of Conduct information (Pages 12-19) contained in the Kings Road School Family and Student handbook with your child at home.
Important Reminders - Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival - School begins at 8:30 AM. The late bell is at 8:35 AM.
(Same Times for All 3 Madison Elementary Schools - To maximize instructional minutes. )
Families are not permitted to enter the school parking lot in their vehicles to drop-off their child.
Car Line - You MUST stay in your car while in the car line. When you leave your car for any reason, you are delaying the drop-off for everyone else in the car line.
If you need assistance, staff members will be available to help.
Dismissal - 3:15 PM
The driveway must be clear of people at all times. If there is no room to wait on the sidewalk, please wait on the grass.
When crossing the parking lot, you must use the crosswalk. Families and students should not be crossing at any other place in the lot.
Please keep in mind that the parking lot cannot be closed during arrival and dismissal. Staff members need access to the parking lot and in the case of an emergency, we need to keep the lot open at all times.
Families must wait on the sidewalk side/school side of the parking lot, NOT the grass area directly adjacent to the parking lot.
Once you connect with your child, you must leave the school property. We enjoy the KRS families, but staying increases the dismissal congestion.
Car Line - You must remain in your car at all times in the car line. If you need assistance, there are staff members there to help you.
