There is some exciting news to share about our agencies and community partners who will be hosting a table at the Wellness & Community Connection event. In addition to our keynote speaker, Kevin Ashworth, we will also have a presentation by parenting expert Megan Barella.

After the Keynote speakers, you will be able to learn more about the following:

-National University of Natural Medicine ("Food as Medicine, Nutrition for Mental Health")

-Asian Health and Service Center
-AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention)
-THPRD (Tualitan Hills Park and Recreation District)

Join us as we celebrate the big yellow school bus February 12-16th. During Love the Bus week we invite parents, students, and staff to take a moment to thank the 270 bus drivers that safely transport 28,000 students to our Beaverton schools daily.

Elementary students are invited to create a card and show appreciation for their bus driver during the week. On Thursday, 2/15, all elementary students who ride their school bus will also receive a prize!

What is Black History Month?

Black History Month is a special time dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history. Black history IS American history, and it takes place every February in the United States.

Why do we celebrate it?

We celebrate Black History Month because the United States has often overlooked or ignored accomplishments of Black Americans. This month serves as an opportunity to learn about the achievements, joy, and cultural heritage of Black individuals, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity in our shared history.

Family discussion questions:

• Why do you think that we have learned so little about Black achievement in history? Why is it important that we learn more?

• What can you do to learn more about African Americans who did great things in the past or are doing great things right now? How can you celebrate and honor their achievements?

• Did you know there is an app called “We Read Too”? It is a mobile directory of hundreds of picture, chapter, middle grade and young adult books written by authors of color featuring main characters of color. Check it out! https://www.wereadtoo.com/
