Reminders
- Please label everything! Jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes.
- Make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack for accidents or messes.
- Please check your child's daily folder every day, sign each day, and empty every night.
- Make sure your child brings a spill-proof water bottle every day!

What are we learning?
Language Arts
Reading
- Readers are learning how to read their favorite storybooks. They remember the story, look at the pictures, and talk about the pictures in the book.

Writing
- Writers are learning how to write simple sentences using sight words we know!
Phonics
- We are learning a letter a day and focusing on writing our letters the best we can. We are learning the name of the letter and the sound the letter makes.
Math
Comparing Numbers
- We are learning how to compare numbers 0-10 using the words "more than", "less than" and "equal to".
Money
- We are learning about the coins (penny, nickel, dime and quarter). We will learn what they look like and how much they are worth.
Numeration
- We will be counting objects up to 20. We will also be practicing writing our numbers and identifying numbers 0 to 20.
Science
Magnets
- The students will describe and predict how a magnet interacts with various materials and how magnets can be used to push or pull.
Light Energy

The students will communicate the idea that objects can only be seen when a light source is present and compare the effects of different amounts of light on the appearance of objects. The students will demonstrate and explain that light travels through some objects and is blocked by other objects, creating shadows.
Social Studies
Government & Citizenship
- Students will identify purposes for having rules.
- Students will identify authority figures in the home, school, and community.
Geography & Map Skills
- Students will identify the physical characteristics of place such as landforms, bodies
- of water, Earth's resources, and weather.
What can you do at home?
- Practice writing their first name with first letter upper case and the rest lower case.
- Practice letter name and sounds.
- Practice recognizing and writing the letters in the alphabet both upper and lowercase.
- Review the sight word list every night.
- Practice writing simple sentences using sight words. Example: "I see the dog."
- Practice recognizing numbers and writing them (0-10).
- Count objects to 20.
