Ms McIntosh's Update
We have been a quieter phase of school life, building up to warmer weather and summer days. We are currently managing our Reception places for September. If you have been offered a place at Stockwell, please make sure that you accept this, so that your place is secure. Ms Mansell and I will be in touch shortly about transition days, Meet The Teacher sessions and expectations for Reception.
Year 6 undertook their end of KS2 assessments last week (SATS). We are incredibly proud of their effort and hard work and they did themselves proud. Whatever their outcomes, we are thrilled with the people that they are becoming and how much they have matured. Well done Year 6!
As part of their learning about Britain since 1948 and the experiences of the Windrush Generation, Year 5 visited Dulwich Picture Gallery to see their Soulscapes exhibition. Soulscapes brings together incredible artists from the African and Caribbean diaspora in the UK and US to explore themes of belonging, memory, joy, healing and transformation through landscape. The children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed their visit, learning a lot from both the art that they saw and the experience of being in a gallery.
Have you seen our new Clothing Bank? The PTA have organised for Stockwell to accept donations of clothing and textiles to raise money for the PTA. Give away your old, unwanted clothes and raise funds for Stockwell. What could be easier?
Fill up a bag and pop it in.
Have a look at the poster below for more information.
The clothes bank is located outside the Main Hall.
Thank you to those of you who attended the Autism voice coffee mornings. I'm sure we all learnt a lot from Mariama and Nic both from the perspective of autistic women and as the parents of autistic children. The final coffee morning will be held at Bonneville this week and we look forward to welcoming you then, every body is welcome. For more information visit autismvoice.co.uk
Mrs Fraga has been walking to raise money. On Staurday, she walked 13 miles, to raising money for the Alzeimer's Society, who work to try to make Dementia a thing of the past. She was lucky enough to have wonderful weather and received a medal for her efforts.
Next, Mrs Fraga will be taking part in the Thames Path Mighty Hike. This walk is to raise money for Macmillan, who provide support for those living with cancer.
In September, Mrs Fraga will complete the Thames Bridges Trek. This walk will be in aid of the British Heart Foundation, which works to find treatments and a cure for heart and circulatory diseases.
If you would like to support Mrs Fraga, please visit one of her Just Giving Pages, below.
PGL Update
We are looking forward to welcoming you to our PGL meeting this week. Ms Kelleher has lots of information to share and has been working hard, behind the scenes, to get everything organised. Wonderfully, Ms Kelleher has managed to secure funding to reduce the cost of the trip for everyone. The overall cost is now £180, and the reduced cost, Pupil Premium children is £50. I hope that all children will be able to take part.
Please come along to the meetings on Thursday 23rd May in the Main Hall either at 9am OR at 3:45pm.
Have a wonderful, restful half term break. We will see you on Monday 3rd, for the final term of the year. There are lots of events coming up, so please check the school website, letters and calendars closely.
Ferndale Football League
After a season of ups and downs, Stockwell ended the season in a respectable 6th place. With 10 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws, it was very respectable performance. We were unfortunate not to place on the podium, but the team has made MASSIVE progress since last year. Read on for the final Football Bulletin of the Year.
Stockwell 1-2 Hill Mead
Goals: Henrique
MOM: Henrique
Stockwell started well, pressing forward from the beginning. Unexpectedly, in a counter attack, Hill Mead scored on their first opportunity. Stockwell seemed stunned after that; the players' heads dropped down. Hill Mead took advantage and scored a second goal. Stockwell's coach decided to make some substitutions and after a while, Stockwell got back their rhythm. The team started to bounce back, scoring a well deserved goal. Until the end, Stockwell created many chances but did not succeed in scoring any more goals. Hill Mead got the win but Stockwell deserved more.
At the end of the matches, an awards ceremony was held. Mr. Coker awarded Marco Stockwell's Player of the Year 2023/24, for his positive attitude, bravery and overall performance throughout the season.
Despite their disappointing loss, Stockwell finished in a respectable 6th place out of 18 teams. This was a massive improvement from their last season (they went up 10 places from season 2022/23). The players should be proud of getting so far up the league.
To the year 6 players I would like to send a big:
"Thank you, for representing your school well and leading the team to the best place of the last few years."
To the Year 5 players: "Keep working hard, stay focused and with a little bit of luck you can get a better position next season."
It was a pleasure to accompany Mr. Coker and the team.
By Mr Silva
Huge thanks to Mr Coker for training the team up and to and Mr Silva for accompanying the team each week. I would also like to thank Mr Silva for the regular updates for the newsletter.

If you have peace, you are not being disturbed, and you are in calm, quiet surroundings.
All I want is to have some peace and quiet.
One more question and I'll leave you in peace.
If you have a feeling of peace, you feel contented and calm and not at all worried. You can also say that you are at peace.
Year 6 were at peace once the SATS were finished.

Subject Spotlight
Spanish
Spanish is taught as a discrete subject. Each class has a weekly timetabled slot with our specialist Spanish tutor who delivers a bespoke language curriculum to the children. Our language curriculum is designed to develop the skills of the children and repetition is planned for in order to support with language acquisition.
The children begin their journey as language learners in Nursery and this journey continues up to Year 6. They begin by learning Spanish in a fun and engaging way, through songs and games. This continues to be developed and by the time they reach Year 6, they are using their knowledge to speak and write in sentences with a focus on grammar.
At Stockwell, we feel it is important to create opportunities to learn about the culture of Spanish speaking countries and by writing letters to children in Spain, we can learn about the similarities and differences in the world around them. We also feel it is important to monitor the progress made by the children. We have created an assessment tool in order to assess the language skills acquired by the children, we use this to inform our planning and to ensure that the children are successful language learners.
Additionally, we feel it is important to celebrate the languages in our communities and as such, we have a Language of the Month. This provides the children with information about different countries around the world as well as learning greetings that we then use to take the register.
Top questions to ask your child this month

Parent and Carer Support
Friends of Stockwell PTA
We have an active PTA, called Friends of Stockwell, who do a brilliant job of fundraising for the school and bringing the community together. Last year, every child was given a £5 donation to reduce the cost of trips; the PTA contributed to class Christmas presents; they also raised money for vulnerable families at Christmas.
It is great to see new faces getting involved. Every parent is a Friend of Stockwell. I ask that everyone gets involved. If you can spare an hour per term (that's three hours per year), your contribution would make a huge difference.
Please email friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to get involved.

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.02am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.
Attendance Winners
Our overall attendance last week was 94%. Let's see if we can end the term on a high!
EYFS Attendance Winners
RA - 98%
KS1 Attendance Winners
2G - 98%
LKS2 Attendance Winners
4H - 99%
UKS2 Attendance Winners
Joint Winners - 6A and 6K - 99%
School Uniform
School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.
Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.
While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.
Reporting a Concern
If you have a concern, please see your child's class teacher in the first instance. If they are unable to resolve the problem, please speak to your child's phase leader.
If they are unable to help, please see one of the school's Assistant Headteachers.
If you are still dissatisfied, please see the Acting Head of School.
