Attendance
Students should be talking with their teachers about making up seat time to prevent a course failure. Please take a moment to read over Moore County Schools policy concerning attendance:
Attendance is taken each period. For state attendance purposes, students must be in school for at least half a period to be counted present. Attendance in class is essential to the mastery of subject matter. Students are expected to be present in class every day. The following attendance requirements are:
Students are allowed eight (8) lawful absences per course per semester.
Any student who accumulates more than eight (8) absences (excused and unexcused) each semester will receive a failing grade of FF.
An FF is issued to students who passed a course academically but have exceeded the allotted absences. All students have the right to make up time for their absences if they have between 8 to 20 absences. FFs must be cleared by the end of the first 9 weeks of the second semester or it will revert to a 50. Second semester FFs can be made up in Summer School or they will revert to a 50.
Any student absent from class or school must present a note to the Attendance Office, from the proper authority within three (3) days.
Failure to bring a note will result in the absence being coded unexcused.
Juniors will be allotted one college day in the spring; prior approval notes from the Student Support Services and verified by the college visited is required. Seniors are allotted one day in the fall.
Violation of Attendance Policy (excessive absences) may result in:
Revoked parking pass
Course failure
Not eligible to buy a parking pass
Not eligible for prom
Not eligible to participate in graduation ceremony

Parent Tech Tips
Moore County Schools is committed to protecting students' online safety by implementing a multi-layered approach to digital security. One of the key tools in this effort is Gaggle a comprehensive monitoring system that helps safeguard students while they use school-issued devices. Gaggle actively scans emails, documents, and messages for signs of cyberbullying, inappropriate content, or harmful behavior, alerting school officials when necessary. This proactive system, along with other security measures, ensures that students can learn and explore in a safe online environment, while also teaching them to be responsible digital citizens.
This is limited to Moore County School devices, but with parent partnership, we can ensure you can protect your student when using personal devices. Look over a few helpful tips on using parent controls on your iPhone and Android devices.
Tutor.com
Are you struggling in one of your classes? Do you need a tutor, but your busy schedule prevents you from getting the help you need? Tutor.com is a 24 hour 7 day a week program where you can log on LIVE with an expert tutor.
ADDITIONALLY, there is an ACT and SAT Test prep program FREE of charge offered to UPHS students. These programs cost $500 separately and we get to use it for free! Juniors, start practicing now with this program to prepare for the ACT on March 11th!
