Math Best Practices is a foundational course reflecting Battle Ground Public School’s philosophy about the teaching and learning of mathematics for enduring understanding. The practices you learn in this course can be applied to any core math program. This 4-day course will be held at Daybreak Primary, room 208, on June 19th, June 20th, August 15th, and August 16th from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm each session.
Is this course for me?
Are you a classroom teacher? All teachers of mathematics, with a minimum of 1 year of experience in the classroom, are invited to participate.
Are you an Instructional coach or math intervention specialist? Come experience a math best practices classroom and learn how to support classroom teachers and how to connect core instruction with intervention.
Are you an administrator? This course allows you to be a student again and to think about how to support teachers as they work with both content standards and the standards for mathematical practice in their math classrooms.
Overarching Course Goals
Develop a research-based lens for assessing the extent to which your teaching practices foster meaningful, appropriate and mathematically productive student engagement in mathematics content and mathematical practices that are aligned with CCSS.
Develop strategies and plans for implementing teaching practices that align with research regarding how students learn mathematics. These strategies support increased and equitable mathematical understanding and achievement by all students.
Develop a personal, best practices action plan for building a powerful culture of mathematics to implement at the start of the school year.

Q: I see that the course covers 4 days. Is it necessary to attend all 4 days?
A: Each day builds on the previous day and the course may not make sense if you do not attend consecutive days. It is strongly suggested that you attend the full course.
Q: Will I receive clock hours for this course?
A: Yes. There are 6.5 hours per day and the total for 4 days is 26 hours.
A: Classroom teachers with at least 1 year of teaching experience, Instructional Coaches, Math Intervention Specialists, or Administrators.
Q: How do I sign up?
