PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Members of AACV,
As we near the end of Quarter 1, I wish you a calm ending to a very busy quarter and a relaxing and rejuvenating Fall Break. This quarter your union worked for you in many ways, including working with our district on the Custodial Guidebook that was put out without AACV representation and input. Donis and I met with a large team from the district, including Jovanim Martinez, newly appoited Chief Operations Officer, to ensure that AACV input is taken into account in the future in these types of changes. We advocated at that meeting for the Custodial Supervisors to seek your input in a different way other than in a lengthy and very detailed written input form. We communicated concern that not only was the input form lengthier and more time consuming than the former evaluation, but that having our written words in the hands of others without knowing how it would be communicated to the custodian was concerning. Other ways AACV advocated for principals was in the recent communication that schools needed to be completely indoors during the last Heat Advisory. AACV advocated that principal discretion be taken into account on these decisions, that micro-climates at our different schools be considered, and that we have made it through many Heat Advisories under the current leadership that did not give centralized mandates to go completely indoors. We were able to come to a compromise that the hottest hours of the day were to be indoors and that the restriction of outdoor activity was for strenuous activities only. Please reach out if you ever have a concern or question that I can support you with or ask questions about. I am here to serve our members and adcvocate for all of us. Have a super break!
Sincerely,
Theresa Corona
President, Administrators Association Chula Vista
KNOW YOUR CONTRACT
Article 6, Section 3 Threats Against Unit Members
The District prioritizes the safety of staff and will not tolerate threats of physical harm,
cases of emotional harm, or assault and/or battery against AACV unit members.
A. Unit members shall immediately report to their supervisor all threats of physical or
emotional harm or cases of assault and/or battery suffered by them in connection
with their employment.
B. The District shall take prompt and appropriate action to provide support to and
protect unit members from threats or physical injury, including meeting with the unit
member and their association representative to develop a safety plan for the unit
member, when needed.
C. If threats or physical injury occur during the course of a unit member's regular
duties, the District shall follow applicable procedures and laws to address the
incident and take appropriate action, including speaking to all parties involved.
AACV bargained this language to protect our unit members. If any AACV member feels they are being threatened physically or emotionally or has been assaulted or battered in the course of their work, please immediately contact the UASC Executive Director, Donis Coronel, so she can help make the appropriate notifications. No member should ever have to tolerate this type of behavior.

AACV NEEDS YOU
We are looking for a volunteer to be our Legislative and Political Affairs Chairperson. Our UASC hires a consultant to work with AACV, our San Diego local (AASD) and our Sweetwater local (AASU) to advocate for legislation that supports our members and students. Currently AACV does not have a representative. Is this something you are interested in? We need YOU! If you are interested, let President Theresa Corona know. Our union is only as strong as the participation of our members.
