November 7, 2024
November Thanks!
Dear Fenton Community and Families
As we approach Thanksgiving and reflect on the past year, I am filled with immense gratitude for each and every one of the #WeAreFenton Family Members. I want to express my sincere appreciation for the incredible dedication, resilience, and unwavering support that make our school district such a special place.
To our Students: You are the heart of our schools. Your curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn inspires us all. Thank you for your hard work, your kindness, and for making our schools vibrant and joyful.
To our Parents and Guardians: Your partnership is invaluable. Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education, for your active involvement in their learning journey, and for your constant support of our schools.
To our Community: Thank you for your unwavering belief in the power of education. Your support for our schools, whether through volunteering, attending events, or advocating for our needs, makes a significant difference in the lives of our students.
The school year always brings its challenges, but it is also filled with moments of triumph, growth, and collaboration. I am grateful for the strength of our community, our shared commitment to excellence, and our collective effort to provide the best possible education for every student.
As we gather with loved ones this Thanksgiving, let us take a moment to appreciate all that we have and to express our gratitude for the people who make our lives richer. Please take a look at our PAWS4THANKSGIVING pledge to truly be present during the holidays.
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and restful Thanksgiving break.
Sincerely,
Heidie Ciesielski
Superintendent

District Events
Inclement Weather Season
With the holiday season upon us, it's that time of year when we start preparing for possible inclement weather and the possibility of school cancellation. Please take time to plan for what you and your family will do in the event we have to cancel school. The district will always attempt to make decisions in time for you to use your plans optimally; however, sometimes with mother nature and the weather patterns in Michigan it doesn't always go as we'd all appreciate.
Please take a look below at the process for a weather cancellation and understand that we try our best to ensure student safety above all else.
A. We monitor the weather, and if severe weather is predicted, as superintendent, I along with the help of our transportation/operations department, local road commission and law enforcement evaluate potential issues.
B. As superintendent, I collaborate with Genesee County Superintendents to make decisions based on the road conditions for our area currently and/or in the near future.
C. We as a district will notify designated individuals in the event of a school closure to then disseminate information as quickly as possible.
D. Families can check: the district website, messaging through our FAPS app to phones in the form of voice, text message, email message, district Facebook, and news stations (ABC 12, WNEM 5, NBC 25, Detroit Fox2).
When the weather breaks and road conditions are in question, remember to leave early and drive slowly. Also, ensure your contact information is updated with your school so the district can provide the most efficient communication, and download our FAPS App.

Southern Lakes Parks and Recreation Survey
Please consider filling out this link to the Southern Lakes Parks and Recreation Programming Survey that they are doing for our school district. Our partnership with SLPR is an active one in which we both, our district and SLPR, want to ensure success with. In order for SLPR to know which programming we would like they need feedback - please consider filling out. THANK YOU!

FAPS Board of Education
Board of Education Meeting November 4, 2024
Our school board held the regular monthly meeting on November 4th. Please find the link to the November meeting located on BOE website. A key highlight of this month's meeting was presenting the audit that we had done from an outside auditing firm with an unmodified opinion or clean audit. Very proud of our board of education and district for the hard work we put in to continue to be a financially strong district.
Also, congratulations to Laura Setzke for being elected as the newest member of the Fenton Area Public School Board as well as a job well done to Dana Jones for her many years of service as a board member and her reelection to the board for 6 more years! Thank you to both for their willingness to put in the service to our district and community.
