SVLA Newsletter for October 2023
SVLA is Central Valley's Parent Partnership Learning Options program.
These bright young minds radiate happiness and positivity!
In middle school, social emotional learning (SEL) plays a pivotal role in a student's development. One crucial aspect of SEL is learning how to be a friend. Understanding the importance of friendship cultivates resilience, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging. We are fortunate to have middle schoolers who are learning how to be a good friend. Our students enrich their personal lives and contribute to a harmonious and thriving school community!

Mark Your Calendar: Learning Showcase
Set-Up is November 6-8th. . . Project Walk is November 8th-15th
Our at-home learners are invited to participate in our Learning Showcase! At SVLA, we believe student work can tell the story of student learning and development. The showcase celebrates student accomplishments. We are excited to host our students’at-home work!
Examples of Student Work Displays:
• Book reviews
• Examples of writing
• Artwork
• Science investigations
• Social Studies projects
• Student Choice – students select work they wish to display that shows their best effort with a short explanation of why they are proud of it.
Examples of criteria:
• “We Feel Proud” moments
• The work is important to us, because….
• The work shows our best efforts, not just perfect work
• The work shows improvement (Consider sharing drafts + final copies)
Tabletops will be available for the displays. Any electronic displays need to be battery operated--if you are showing a laptop video, for example, you will need to charge your battery beforehand. If you need any basic art supplies, please contact your consulting teacher.
SVLA is Seeking Smart, Skillful, Substitutes!
Substitute Teachers are Awesome!
What's awesome about Ashley Vasquez? Her passion, dedication, and willingness to make a positive impact on our students' education! Mrs. Vassquez is an amazing substitute teacher--but did you know she is also an SVLA mom? Wow! 🤩 We are currently seeking individuals who may be interested in being substitute teachers like her. If you or someone you know is interested, please feel free to reach out!
Car Valet? A REMINDER!
If you are using the valet line, for safety purposes we're asking parents to stay in the car while students are loaded and unloaded by staff. Please pull up to "top of the U" and wait for your student(s). If your child needs extra help, please park and walk over to pick up your child from the dismissal area. Thanks for helping us keep our valet line running smoothly and safely. We appreciate YOU and your patience in this important matter.
