Jeffries Journal
January 2025
From the Principal
Dear Jaguar Families,
Happy New Year! Can you believe the school year is already half-way over? The Jeffries team hopes you had an awesome winter break. We have missed your kiddos and it will be so good to see them this week.
This week, our students will jump right back into learning and we will spend time reviewing our classroom and building-wide expectations. We will end the week with our signature spending parties and a celebration assembly! We look forward to what the second semester will bring. Please don't hesitate to reach out anytime you have a question, concern, or celebration.
Stay warm!

Building School Improvement Plan (BSIP) Update
Each year, our team assembles to review data and determine goals for the following school year. This year our goal focus was on improving our daily attendance, increasing student achievement in math and reading, and decreasing the number of students with discipline incidents. Last year, we made 11% in gains from the year before on our Annual Performance Report (APR), which is measured by DESE. The report looks at academic achievement and attendance. The district average was 3% growth. Jeffries and SPS made great gains last year! Here are the current action steps and where we currently are in meeting our goals.
Attendance
Increasing our daily attendance is not just a building goal but also a district goal. Our building goal is to maintain 95% or better attendance. Presently, our current attendance percentage is nearly 93.82%. Last year, we were at 93.33% at this same time. Research shows that students who are at school are more likely to graduate high school. Thank you for your efforts in making sure that your students are at school each and every day from bell to bell. We couldn't do it without your partnership.
This year, we have a monthly attendance challenge where grade levels and classes compete to see who can earn the highest attendance. This month, students may add a snowflake to their classroom snowglobe when their class has 95% or more attendance for the day. The class with the highest attendance earns a hot chocolate party in February.
Academic Acheivement
Each week our teachers engage in meetings where we identify MO Learning Standards, analyze data, and make instructional decisions to better support our students. Additionally, our students took the middle of the year Galileo benchmark. We will be digging into the data more over the next couple of weeks, but an initial review shows that our students are making gains in both math and reading.
PBIS
As you know, students can earn signature cards and/or golden paws. Signatures are earned by individual students when they are caught showingThe Jaguar Way. Golden paws may be earned when the entire class is caught modeling expected behaviors. Once a month, students can spend their signatures on an experience within the school day. Once a set amount of Golden Paws are earned by the class, they work with their classroom teacher to determine a prize. As a reminder, we show The Jaguar Way by:
Be Safe.
Be Respectful.
Be Responsible.
You might consider asking your student questions throughout the week like, "In what ways did you show respect today?" or "Tell me about a time today when you were responsible." I have added our building wide PBIS matrix below for you to review.
