Washington - Caldwell Parent Update
Week of September 30, 2024
Message from our Principal
Hello Bulldog Families,
We are nearing the end of our Fall testing window. As part of Act 20, we will be using the results to develop plans to support our youngest readers in grades 4K-3. We know that early literacy success provides a foundation for academic growth and development in all content areas. Mrs. Borchardt, our reading interventionist, is leading this work for Washington-Caldwell. Together, as a team, we are moving our students forward.
In case you missed it, we had a very exciting girls basketball game on Wednesday, September 25th. The B team played hard against Kansasville, but came up just a few points short. However, we believe the effort and sportsmanship displayed by the team is a reflection of the winning character of our scholar/athletes. Great job Bulldogs!
Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff and school community,
Sincerely,
Kevin, Superintendent/Principal

HELP WANTED!
Ms. Vogt is looking for volunteers that could come in on a regular basis to shelve library books each week. Please reach out to her at kvogt@washcald.com if you are interested. Essentially, this can be done any time during the week. It is a great job for anyone - parents, grandparents, high school students looking for volunteer hours, etc.... Please reach out to discuss it with Ms. Vogt.
A Message From The Front Office
Please inform the front office of your student's absence, late arrivals, or early dismissal. You can call the front office (before 9:00) or send an email to Karen Kaldor at kkaldor@washcald.com and Sue Krystowiak at skrystowiak@washcald.com.
If your student will be arriving late, it is important to let the office know if your student will be needing a hot lunch and what their choice will be. This will ensure that your student will have a lunch ordered for them. The lunches need to be ordered by 9:00. This information is important to keep our school running smoothly.
Things You Can Do to Raise A Reader
Share books every day. Read with your child every day, even after he becomes an independent reader.
Lost & Found
The Lost & Found is once again beginning to fill up. Check out the pictures to identify any of these pieces that may belong to your student. Any items that are not claimed will be donated at the end of the quarter. Have your students pick up the item or let us know what belongs to you!
Knitting Club for Grades 5-8
We will be starting a Knitting Club in October for grades 5-8. Check out the flyer if your student would be interested. A Washington-Caldwell grandparent will be leading this club with Ms Vogt's assistance. Students do not need to know how to knit - We will teach everyone how to knit!
Lego Club Returns
Students who are staying MUST bring a note the morning of Lego Club. We can not accept early or late notes. It needs to be a paper note - this assists us to make sure we have all students in the correct location at dismissal. Thank you for following these requests.
PTO Happenings
Fall Fundraiser
We are once again selling Seroogy's Chocolate Bars and Coffee. This fundraiser will help sponsor the End of Year Carnival as well as many other PTO sponsored events. Order forms were sent home with your students TODAY! Prizes will be awarded to the top sellers. Attached is a copy of the order forms.
On Thursday October 17, we will be hosting a PTO Fall Fest for students in 4K-5th grade. Middle school students will be creating and running games for the kids. This event will be from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Games, prizes, and fun are being planned. Bags of candy donations will collected prior to the event as well as a few volunteers will be needed to make this event a success. More information will be coming soon.
