BASHAW SCHOOL: NOVEMBER UPDATE
November 1
Education is the passport to the future!
GENERAL NEWS & INFORMATION
REMINDER on student attendance
Please be sure to call/email the school to let them know if your child will be away. Students are automatically marked as absent if we do not receive a call. Our system differentiates between absences. If your student is ill or under the weather, please let us know so we can mark them as such, INSTEAD of absent. Likewise, if they will be attending an appointment or will otherwise be missing school, we can mark them as "parent call". Absence reports matter and differentiating between the TYPE of absence makes a difference.
For safety reasons, if your child is leaving the school for ANY reason, a phone call/email to the office is REQUIRED.
DFS Fundraiser with BESTA - Submit by November 14
We are excited to be fundraising with Dieleman Fundraising this year. They have a wonderful selection of wrapping paper, chocolates, treats, soups, gourmet food mixes, totes and bags, McSweeney's Jerky, Poppin Popcorn and more!. The proceeds will go towards sports and field trips.
As an incentive for participating in this fundraiser, students' names will be put into a draw for every $100 they sell. BESTA has collected the prizes, which include a pair of Monster ear buds, Duggan cinema movie tickets, Stettler swimming pool coupons, and Mcdonald's ice cream coupons.
We sent home catalogues and a letter on how to get started with your child this week. Please submit orders online by the end of the day on November 14th.

School Council Update
Thank you to everyone who attended the October 2024 Bashaw School Council meeting! We had a great turnout and covered a range of topics focused on improving our school’s community connections, governance, and educational goals.
Vice Principal Chelsea Niederlag shared an exciting "Teacher Feature," and Principal Craig Dimond gave an update on school programs, policy changes, school generated funds, and support initiatives for students. The council reviewed important policies, including the Education Act’s role in School Councils, and discussed how the council will engage with the Bashaw school community this year.
Other topics included plans by administration to update the athletics handbook, the potential for a three-year Bashaw School Council plan to align with Bashaw School’s Educational Plan, and resources on digital safety and screen time for youth. We shared guidance for parents on social media and internet safety.
Meeting minutes and information will be posted soon for those who want to catch up.
Please join us for our next Bashaw School Council meeting on December 4, 2024, at 6 PM, where we’ll discuss topics like artificial intelligence and its impact on students, and the prospect of our school council creating a three-year council plan. We look forward to seeing you there, either in person or online!

Both these programs are very much needed and appreciated by the students in the school.
