Hey There, GIS Families!

What a beautiful long weekend full of sunshine. I hope those of you who have lost loved ones and friends can take a minute and remember them on this Memorial Day.

Wednesday is the rescheduled CIUUSD Art and Music Night at the same time (5-7 PM) and in the same place (GIS). We hope to see you there!

I have some staffing updates to share with you as this school year ends. Ms. G, our music teacher, is moving and leaving the CIUUSD learning community. Also, Mrs. K, one of our 2nd-grade teachers, has accepted a teaching position closer to her home. We will surely miss Ms. G and Mrs. K and wish them the best.

Pizza orders will arrive during the last week of school. I don't have an official date yet, but I will keep you posted.

We had another wonderful bike bus on Friday. A big thanks to Mrs. Pearson and the parents for enjoying the ride to school. Did you see the Islander article from the first ride?

The Town Clerks in Grand Isle, North Hero, and Isle La Motte have ballots available for early voting.

You can stop at the clerk's office of your town any time between now and June 4th to vote.

Island Excavating is parking a smaller dump truck in the school parking lot on May 28 and 29 for us to collect bottles and cans in! Please save your returnables in garbage bags to donate on those days. We are looking into installing a permanent bottle return at GIS. We will keep you updated on that.

• May 28th- Mustache Day- Mrs. H is going to get everyone a fake mustache to wear, and probably say she mustache you a question far too many times 😆
• May 29th- Neon Day- wear the brightest colors you have!
• May 30th- Occupation Day- have a family member volunteer to come in and talk about their job!
• May 31st- PJ day

• June 3rd- Quilt Day, classrooms will make paper quilts to remember their year.
• June 4th- Relay Race Day
• June 5th- Silly Socks Day
• June 6th- Tie Dye Day
• June 7th- Uber Day- students will share about different places they want to visit

• June 10th- Value Day- share about someone you really value or look up to.
• June 11th- Wildcat Day, wear your school gear!
• June 12th- X-tra recess day!
• June 13th- Yelp Day- Rate the school year!
• June 14th- Zoo Day- dress like your favorite animal (maybe a Wildcat?!) or bring in a stuffie.

Summertime can be challenging for keeping kids engaged with school skills like writing, so I wanted to offer Summer Pen Pals. I will provide the stamps, envelopes, and paper; you only have to sign up! I'll send the first letter at the start of July, and you respond when you can. With each response I get, I'll send something back!

Bikes, ducks, and classroom celebrations, oh my! A few classes have earned upwards of 900 PAWS for being Kind, Safe, and Engaged and have spent the entire day learning outside.

The bike bus had its second run, and everyone was excited to pedal their way to school again! Our Game Changers had a wonderful three days with our incoming Kindergarteners, and the baby ducks had their inaugural swim before heading off to their new home.

Did you know? The state of Vermont helps cover child care costs. Starting on April 7, more families will qualify for tuition assistance based on family size and income. For example, a family of four making $124,800 a year can get help paying for programs. You can find out more about eligibility requirements online. To apply, contact your local Community Child Care Support Agency.
