Did you know that it's the 40th Anniversary for the Michigan Model for Health Curriculum?
I have nearly 14 years of experience as a trainer in the Michigan Model for Health. Prior to working at the OAISD, I had the opportunity to teach health education at the elementary, middle and high school level where using the Michigan Model for Health as a curriculum proved to be immensely advantageous. If you have any inquiries regarding it, please don't hesitate to contact me. - Stacey

Michigan Model Updates for 4th & 5th Grade Teachers
Beginning on February 8, 2024, all teachers who have been trained in Michigan Model for Health and currently have a 4th & 5th grade license will be receiving access to both the regular curriculum and the HIV/STI prevention lesson at 4th grade. These have been combined into one license for ease of use by the Michigan Model site managers.
Please note: Unless you have attended the HIV/STI prevention training required by the state of Michigan to teach the HIV/STI prevention content, do not teach this lesson! There are many reminders and warnings about this within the curriculum. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at ssills@oaisd.org.
Physical Education Updates
NEW 2024 PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS
SHAPE America’s National Physical Education Standards define what a student should know and be able to do as result of a highly effective physical education program. States and local school districts across the country use the National Physical Education Standards to develop or revise existing standards, frameworks and curricula.
The new National Physical Education Standards — released in March 2024 after a multi-year revision process — provide a comprehensive framework for educators to deliver high-quality instruction and makes a positive difference in the health and well-being of every student.
This week is a great time to advocate for your program by inviting parents, caregivers and school administrators to join one of your PE classes.
They’ll see the standards-based skills your students are learning — and experience first-hand how PE has changed from what they might remember.
Our free Teacher's Toolkit — all new for 2024 — includes some great resources to help you celebrate and advocate during National PE & Sport Week, including:
- Sample Save the Date Flyer
- Spirit Week Activity Calendars for grades K-5 and 6-12
- Ready-to-Share Advocacy Flyers
- Summer Activity Cards for grades K-5 and 6-12
