FLAG FOOTBALL INTRAMURALS
Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) middle school intramural sports program has expanded to all 18 middle schools for the 2024-25 school year! This program is an extension of the school day and is designed to reinforce leadership qualities, teamwork, respect, integrity and a sense of accomplishment through fun competitions. The middle school intramural sports program is open to all middle school students of all skill levels - no prior sports experience is required.
Sports Breakdown: We are offering a variety of sports, including flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Teams can be co-ed or single-gender, depending on the preferences of the participants.
The timeline and details for each sport are as follows:

SECOND STEP
Second Step is the program that all LCPS middle schools utilize for their advisory programs. Each time we begin a new unit, we will send information out to the families. Please follow this link for the Family Communication that explains the program to families before we begin for the year.
UNDERSTANDING CHANGES TO THE BELL SCHEDULE
Today I wanted to discuss how "Snack" will work. Students will have the opportunity to have a small snack during the CONNECT Block (10:20-10:40 AM). Students may bring in a snack utilizing the snack list that can be found by following this LINK, or they may purchase a snack in the morning from a mobile cart that will be stationed outside of the cafeteria between 8:30 and 8:45.
FREE/REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION
There are a number of benefits associated with Free & Reduced Lunch application. If you think you might qualify, just follow this LINK to the application, or this one for the application in Spanish. You may also use the QR code. Take a look at the flyers below to see some of the other benefits for applying to this program.
Policy 8655
Policy 8655 is a new policy that outlines the use of personal electronic devices by students during the school day. Luckily, this policy aligns with the "Off and Away All Day" practice at Smart's Mill. The policy states that, ""Cell phones and earbuds must be silenced and put away during all instructional periods." It goes on to state that middle school students should store their personal devices in their locker. Please follow this LINK to identify all of the information regarding Policy 8655.
