Important information from Bowie ISD
BISD GIves Back
School Board Appreciation Month
January is School Board Recognition Month, and Bowie ISD is proud to honor its trustees for their unwavering dedication and commitment to our schools and students.
Our school board members are selfless volunteers who devote countless hours to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. This month provides a special opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for their invaluable contributions to our district and community.
HOLD
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). This month we would like to explain one of the 5 protocols we have in BISD.
HOLD
The primary objective is to keep students out of the hallways in a specific area for a brief period of time. Examples include an emergency medical situation, an altercation that needs to be addressed, or a large spill in a hallway floor which may pose a risk to students.
In the event of a HOLD the following protocol is in place on all campuses.
“HOLD In Your Classroom or Area. Clear the Halls”
Students are trained to:
- Clear the hallways and remain in their area or room until the “All
Clear” is announced
- Do business as usual
Adults and staff are trained to:
- Close and lock the door
- Account for students and adults
- Do business as usual
NWEA MAP
Grades 3-8 completed NWEA Map Growth testing prior to Christmas break. Grades K-2 will be completing their testing in the first few weeks when we return from break in January. Once testing is complete you should get communication about your child's performance from the classroom teacher. If you would like more information about NWEA MAP testing and scores, please visit the Family Website.
Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR)
The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) for Bowie ISD can be found our our website. (https://www.bowieisd.net/page/bowie-isd-tapr-reports) This report is required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures. 2nd Grade RLA
Students in 2nd grade were learning about Westward Expansion and one of the activities was to recreate memory quilts. Many pioneers sewed quilts from small pieces of to take with them on their journey and some women stayed behind to make quilts for thier family members who were moving west. Students in 2nd grade made their own quilt square about their learning.
Retirements
Kelly Roth and Stella Fowler, two phenomenal educators, are retiring from Bowie ISD! With a combined 70 years of experience, their impact on countless students, colleagues, and the entire BISD community is immeasurable. Their dedication to learning, leadership, and building meaningful relationships has left an enduring legacy.
Thank you, Kelly and Stella, for all you have poured into Bowie ISD. Your influence will be felt for years to come, and you will always be part of the BISD family!
CONSTRUCTING
In RLA, there is a strong emphasis on building vocabulary and expanding our students' knowledge of words and themes. Our first-grade teachers took a hands-on approach to help students grasp the meaning of the word construct. Using manipulatives, students had the opportunity to build and create anything they could imagine, bringing the word to life through their creativity and innovation.
We are proud to see such imaginative thinkers in BISD, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow in their learning!
5th Grade RLA project
What a fantastic way to blend art history with a fun, seasonal activity! Using pumpkins to teach perspective—a key technique from Renaissance art—gives students a creative, hands-on approach to understanding how artists create depth on flat surfaces. Tying this project to nonfiction text further enhances cross-curricular learning, strengthening students' knowledge across multiple subjects.
🏆 Bowie JH is District 7AAA UIL Academic Zone Champion! 🏆
We couldn’t be more proud of our students for their incredible effort, positive attitudes, and perseverance in preparing for and performing at today’s meet in grades 2-8. What makes this achievement even more impressive is that they competed on a day off from school and academics — a true testament to their dedication and drive!
A huge thank you to our academic coaches who poured their time and energy into preparing our students for success. This victory is a reflection of their hard work and unwavering support. Way to go to BES, BIS and BJH on winning 1st place! 💙📚
3rd Grade project on Greek Unit
Step back in time and experience Ancient Rome with our 3rd-grade class! 🏛️ Our students brought history to life through a Living History Museum, where they proudly shared their research on Roman gods and goddesses.
Each student wrote their own research and crafted their own costumes to make their presentations truly immersive. Their creativity and hard work made this an unforgettable learning experience for all!
Make Attendance a Priority for the 2nd Semester of the 24-25 School Year
Attendance Matters
Regular school attendance is very important for students to do well in school. Missing school, can lead to problems in academics, behavior, confidence and even later like dropping out. Families can help by making sure kids go to school every day, creating routines and keeping in touch with the school. You can find more information at http://r16.us/attendance.
Check out the infographic below to see how just a few days adds up to a lot of loss of learning.
