I hope everyone had a great fall break and found some time to rest and recharge. It was wonderful welcoming the students back to the building on Monday. So many smiling faces! It was also great seeing so many families at conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday. Teachers’ schedules were packed with great conversations! If you were unable to meet with your child's teacher during conferences, please reach out and find a time to connect.

We’re a little over half-way through the trimester and teachers continue to update learning progressions and competencies as they move through their lessons and units. Please make sure you continue to look at Seesaw or Schoology with the weekly updates from teachers to stay updated on what is happening in the classroom.

As we progress through this second half of the trimester, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you have.

Picture retake day is Thursday, October 31. If your child missed the original picture day, their picture will be taken and families may order using the link below. If you would like retake's of your student's original picture, please email Jodi Super at jsuper@district16.org to ensure their photo is retaken.

The health office will be conducting a vision screening for 1st and 3rd graders and all students in the CONNECT program on Tuesday November 12, 2024. If your child wears glasses be sure they have them at school for the screening. This year, we are excited to partner with the Spring Lake Park Lions Club. They will be bringing trained volunteers to use a vision spot screener to screen students for potential vision issues. If you do NOT want your child to participate in vision screening, please call the health office at 763-600-5704 by Tuesday November 5, 2024.

The items in the Lost and Found will be donated after Friday, October 25. Please have your child check for any missing items before then. Please remember to labels your student's items as we do check and return any items that have names on them.

Mrs. Rodeck and Mrs. Cole spearheaded a creative wall art project inspired by the book "The Dot" and International Dot Day, which was September 15. The Dot is a children's book about a girl who discovers her artistic talent and International Dot Day is a celebration of the creativity of Art. Students did an excellent job coloring in their dots to create an amazing piece of artwork.

Our PTO-sponsored Fall Festival will take place on Friday, November 8 from 6-8 p.m. Admission is free! Bring the whole family and enjoy fall-inspired games & crafts, an inflatable slide & bounce house, balloon artist, and our Scholastic Book Fair! We'll even have dinner covered! Domino's Pizza and Culver's Sundaes will be available for purchase in the cafeteria. Please consider volunteering for one time slot during the Fall Festival to help us make this event run smoothly!

Do you have clothing that you're looking to give away? If so, please bring along new and gently used sweatshirts and sweatpants in sizes 4-16 to the Fall Festival! We're helping Nurse Tammy restock her office so that she can take care of our Northpoint students who may need an outfit change or an extra layer.

The Construction Trades program at Spring Lake Park High School is in its third year, giving students hands-on experience through real-world construction projects This year, 40 students will complete their largest project yet: finishing a one-story, two-bedroom house that will become a permanent home for a local nonprofit.

Through partnerships with industry professionals, students gain experience working alongside plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople to learn valuable construction skills. They have practiced by building smaller structures, like sheds and dog houses, and are now ready for the home’s finishing stages. The goal is to finish the house by December.

In addition to honing construction techniques, the students have built a sense of camaraderie. Recently, they gathered for a BBQ to celebrate their progress before diving into the final phase of the house project.

For students Trevor Kachina and Landon Ludke, the course is more than just learning construction - it is a stepping stone to their futures. The program is not just about building houses but also learning life skills, building community and shaping futures. Read more.

If you love the story of Harry Potter, then you will enjoy the SLPHS Fall Play. Join us for opening weekend, October 25-26 of "Puffs" or "Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic!" For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

This play allows you to experience the unique performance setting of “Theater in the Round.” Every so many years, the fall play is produced in “Theater in the Round” with seating on stage surrounding the actors. This unique setting provides a completely different performance experience for all. Purchase Tickets.

Have Panther gear you are no longer wearing in your home. Donate it to the Panther Thrift Shop and get a coupon to use in the Panther Store for future purchase! Gently used Panther gear with the current SLP logo will be re-sold at thrifty prices to students, staff and families at the Winter Market in December. Contact the team at PantherStore@district16.org for drop off information and to get your coupon. Note, we will be unable to accept previous SLP logo gear. • Festive Drawings (grades K-4) - Spark your child's imagination with a Young Rembrandts Cartooning Class! They'll discover the power of exaggeration with Cow Expressions and Elf Expressions, perfect for conveying a whirlwind of emotions. Basketball Fun will score big with sports fans, while Baking Sequence and Decorating Sequence promise seasonal fun and creativity. Gift your child the joy of learning and artistry.
  
• Robotics - Muscle 'bots (grades 1-4) - Get ready to flex some robot muscle! We’ll build a robot to compete in a tug-o-war competition, a truck pull, and haul heavy loads. Students use these robots to learn basic computer coding and engineering principles.
  

Join the Spring Lake Park Schools community at the semi-annual Spring Lake Park Lions Community Pancake breakfast on Sunday, October 27, 8-noon. This event is hosted by the Lion’s and co-sponsored by Spring Lake Park Schools. A freewill donation will get you all you can eat pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage and beverages. The event features a community resources and wellness fair as well as activities for kids. The Panther Store Pop-Up will be there - you don’t want to miss the “Syrup Discount!"

Come and see how Anoka County is responding to the opioid epidemic during the Spotlight on opioids & overdose event on Saturday, November 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Columbia Academy. This free event aims to raise awareness about overdose prevention and provide support for individuals and families affected by substance abuse. A day filled with insightful education, discussions, informative sessions and networking opportunities. See the flyer for more details.
