Updated Procedures to be Aware of at RWHS
Cell Phone Policy
Important Update regarding cellphones:
Cell phones are a personal device provided by families. It is critical that you continue to be a partner in the educational experience of our scholars. Teachers need spaces to do their jobs well. The state has also set new legislation that requires all districts to adopt cell phone policies, recognizing that humans are suffering from an array of social and health impact issues as a result of screen time. I encourage you to set limits on and use parental controls when necessary to ensure students are engaged in learning.
The following updates are being made to our procedures and want to ensure you are aware as parents.
- Cell phones are not to be SEEN or HEARD.
- First offence, cell phone will be given to the teacher and returned at the end of the class period
- Second offence, cell phone will be given to the teacher, building supervisors will collect the cell phone, and it will be brought to the office for pickup at the end of the school day.
- Third offence, Parent Meeting will be established to schedule a new plan for cell phones.
Schools are responsible for developing productive citizens through education growth in the classroom.
Students who need their cell phone for medical reasons should work with the administration to set a plan for how to access the phone when needed, so it does not put them in conflict with the procedures. We want the best educational experience possible for our scholars.
New Tardy Procedures
We are enforcing a detention policy for students who are Tardy to class. Parents will be contacted for an issued detention and will be responsible for picking the student up after detention if they ride the bus. Parents will have advanced notice and scheduled for the detention.
TTU = 1 point (this is just a few minutes late)
TTR = 2 points (this is more than 6 minutes late)
Detention = total 5 points
1st LC (Left Class) = warning
2nd or more LC = detention

Chrome Care Protection Plan Available
Red Wing Public Schools provides all students in grades K-12 with a Chromebook device to use for learning and collaboration.
This device is the property of Red Wing Public Schools, but students are responsible for keeping their Chromebook in good condition. One way to protect the District's investment and save yourself repair costs is to purchase ChromeCare Protection Plan. This plan is only $15 and can save you hundreds of dollars during the course of the year.
Did you know that nine families already have had to pay $315 each to replace their child's device this fall? Dozens more have had to pay for repairs. They likely would have paid nothing or only $10 if they had purchased ChromeCare.
Purchase ChromeCare by Sept. 30!
Students in grades 5-12 are eligible for ChromeCare. Students in grades 5-6 transport Chromebooks between classes. Students in grades 8-12 transport their Chromebooks between classes as well as to and from school, much as they do with textbooks. But K-5 students leave their Chromebooks in their classrooms. For these reasons, only families with students in grades 5-12 are eligible for the ChromeCare Protection Plan. The deadline is Sept. 30.
Google Classroom: Notifications OFF
Our students often struggle to use their school email as a tool because of the amount of Google Classroom notifications they get as emails. As a default, all classes will send them notifications any time a teacher adds new material or posts anything. This, for seven classes, is a lot of emails! Please consider taking time to walk through turning some notifications off and only leaving on the important ones (work is returned, due date reminders or teacher comments, for example). This will make a huge difference in the email inbox status and make it a much more usable tool!
Stuck in an OLD Google Classroom?
If you have an OLD Google Class still showing up in your classes, email the teacher so they can remove you! If the teacher no longer works here or you need help, let Mrs. Bray know.

Student Nutrition Services
Feed your body, feed your brain!
Our schools provide healthy meals each day. Our breakfast and lunch selections are nutritious and make a tremendous difference in how our students perform in the classroom: Feed your body, feed your brain!
Each student may eat one breakfast and one lunch per school day free of charge.
We do encourage families to complete the Application for Educational Benefits. Qualifying families may then receive benefits such as reduced activity fees, help with education expenses and some discounts. Please note that students who receive Medicaid or Medicare benefits are automatically enrolled. Start the process by creating your account at www.schoolcafe.com/register.
The district also offers a la carte items for purchase. Students bringing lunch from home, for example, may purchase milk daily for 55 cents per serving. Students are required to have a positive balance in their account to purchase a la carte items
All schools use a computerized school lunch accounting system linked to SchoolCafe. This allows families to deposit money into a personal account for their child. Each student is issued a four- or five-digit identification number that they will enter into a keypad when purchasing a la carte items. The cost will automatically be deducted from the account balance.
Families can deposit money by online payment or send cash or check to the school their child attends. Checks should be written to ISD 256. Checks should also contain the student’s full name on the memo line. The check can be written for multiple students. If doing this, please note this on the check.

Plan your schedule for breakfast!
Students are expected to be in each class on time and for the entirety of the hour. Students need to arrange to be at school early enough to eat their free breakfast BEFORE first hour begins at 8:40am.
NEW! TWO breakfast locations at RWHS!
Breakfast service at RWHS is now in 2 locations! Get your FREE breakfast in the Cafe OR the 2nd location is in the A la Carte window in the Cafeteria. Both locations are serving the same items each day. Breakfast is from 8:00 am to 8:40 am and second chance breakfast is from 9:27 am to 9:32 am .

The start and end time is the same for these days. We are just adding an extra period for this to occur.
