The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Community Update
Sunday, June 2nd
Dear SHARK families and friends,
After months of learning and fun, June is finally here. There is no slowing down at CES during our final days of this school year. Below you will find information about upcoming events like Step Up Day, Field Day, and the Last Day of School. Please take a few moments to review the upcoming events and the recommendations to make each event successful.
This is the final week of afterschool clubs. I want to thank all of our club leaders for offering such a wide range of activities for our SHARKS. Ms. Deb Gebhardt works tirelessly to organize the entire process and we are so GRATEFUL! 98% of CES students participated in an Afterschool Club this year. We are thrilled to offer our SHARKS these amazing experiences and look forward to doing so again in 2024-2025.
The upcoming weeks are incredibly busy, however, I hope you will take a few moments to appreciate all that has been accomplished. Our SHARKS have experienced incredible growth this year. We are so proud of our SHARKS and look forward to celebrating their successes with our entire community! Thank you for your ongoing support of our school, our staff, and our students. We are truly proud to be SHARKS!!
Yours truly,
Dr. Kelly
June Events & Activities
4th Grade Visit to Monomoy Regional Middle School
On Monday, June 3rd, the 4th Grade students will be traveling to Monomoy Regional Middle School for a visit. While there, students will meet with Dr. Dudley and Mr. Dutch (principal and assistant principal), meet the 5th grade teachers, take a tour of the school, and have lunch at the middle school.
Field Day
Tuesday, June 4th is the CES Annual Field Day. The day includes field games, water games, and carnival games.
The majority of the day is spent outdoors in the sun. We recommend the following for students:
- sensible shoes for running
- sunscreen
- a hat (for added sun protection)
- towel (for drying off)
- large water bottle
The day ends with the annual "soaking" from the Chatham Fire Department. After the tug-of-war, students are allowed to run through the outfield at Veterans Field while our CFD friends take out the hoses and spray them down. Students may wear a bathing suit under their clothes if they choose.
Each student will also receive a Field Day t-shirt. Shirts are distributed Tuesday morning.
Parents/guardians interested in volunteering to help classes can reach out to Ms. Deb Gebhardt in the Main Office. dgebhardt@monomoy.edu
Fourth Grade Celebration
The MRSD Class of 2032 will always have a very special place in our hearts. Many students in this 4th Grade class have been CES Sharks since preschool. This group was only in Kindergarten when the world shut down to COVID. These students have faced many challenges during their time at CES and are leaving stronger and smarter. We could not be more proud of their progress!
On Friday, June 14th, families of our 4th grade students are invited to join our annual Fourth Grade Celebration. Beginning at 11:15 at CES, students and families will view a memory video. At the conclusion of the video, the group will travel to the Chatham Recreation Center for an afternoon of food and games.
Grades K-3 Step Up Day
While the 4th Grade is away at play on Friday, June 14th, our students in Grades K-3 will have their own celebration. Step Up Day is when students will meet their teacher and classmates for the 2024-2025 school year. Students meet their new teacher and learn about the expectations and fun in store for them in the coming school year. K-3 Step Up takes place during the afternoon on Friday, June 14th.
Last Day of School Clap Out
Tuesday, June 18th is the final day of school this year. Please note there is an 11:00 am dismissal for all students.
At CES we celebrate our 4th-Graders and retiring staff members on their last walk through our halls. Beginning at 10:45 am the Grade 4 students will be led by Mrs. King and Ms. Bonnie Karras through the halls of CES to the cheers and applause of our entire community. The "parade" exits the building by the playground and continues to the front of the school. Families are invited line up along the front pathway of CES to join us in clapping out the retirees and 4th-graders. 4th graders can be dismissed by their families at that time or can return into the building if they are taking the bus or going to an after-school program. If planning on attending, we recommend arriving and setting up between 10:30 and 10:40 am.
