Principal's Update
You may have noticed that this time, the last question on each night's "trivia quiz" is about what a word means. I made this change because of learning we've done as a staff this year about reading.
Knowing a lot of words is really important for success in reading, particularly as students get to 3rd grade and higher. The more words students know, the better they're able to comprehend what they read. It's important both that students grow their vocabularies and learn how to use context to figure out what new words mean.
As you answer the question about what a word means, try this:
1) "Let's go back and find that word in the chapter."
2) "Let's re-read that part. What do you think the word might mean?"
3) If needed, "Let's check it online."
That practice helps to build both student vocabulary and their reasoning skills--both important for reading success!
Thank you for your support and keep reading!

At our May meeting on Tuesday, May 14th (6:30-7:30pm), we'll vote in positions for our EHSA board for the upcoming year. Might you have something to contribute? Do you have a nomination of someone you think would add value to our board? If so, send it to Mrs. Boyd @ mboyd@greenfield.k12.wi.us. She'll put the notations on a ballot for us. We also hope that you'll consider coming to our May meeting to have your voice heard!
