Elliott Eagles Update
Week of May 13th
Greetings Elliott Families!
As we get ready to close out the school year we have several year end activities taking place. Our 5th grade students will be going to EMU for two days on May 22nd and 23rd. Our 5th graders are also having a picnic on May 30th and the 5th grade teachers have gone over the behavior expectations in order to attend the event.
As we close the year, we will be having a Kindergarten Celebration Day. The Kindergarten team will bring their classes together on June 6th at 9:30am to share a few songs with parents and share some final words. This is not a graduation/promotion ceremony. Students can wear their Sunday best but no graduation gowns/caps. We hope to see you there.
Our 5th grade students will be participating in a Clap Out on the last day of school at 11:00am. We wanted to make sure that our whole school community can participate. We ask that parents arrive outside and we will have a designated area for parents, as our 5th graders parade around the outside of the school. They will meet their parents at the end of the Clap Out by the upper playground area.
The iPad grant has ended and a letter has been included in our newsletter from the technology department for student iPad return. Please return the device to Elliott.

Philharmonic Special Concert
Dear 4th Grade Parents,
We are thrilled to announce that the Michigan Philharmonic will be visiting our school to perform a special concert just for our students! This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to experience the magic of live classical music and witness the incredible talent of the musicians from the Michigan Philharmonic on Thursday, May 30th at 10:00 am.
The concert will be an enriching and educational experience for our students, exposing them to different instruments, musical styles, and performances. It will be a treat for their ears and eyes as they watch and listen to the beautiful melodies and harmonies performed by the orchestra.
This is a continuation from the fall where a small ensemble from the Michigan philharmonic came to each school in Wayne-Westland to give a demonstration on the instruments of the orchestra.
We encourage you to talk to your child about the upcoming concert and help them understand the significance of this unique opportunity. Encouraging them to actively listen and engage with the music can enhance their appreciation for classical music and foster a lifelong love for the arts.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Michigan Philharmonic for their commitment to music education and for bringing their exceptional talent to our school. We also extend our thanks to all the parents for their support in making this event possible.
We look forward to a memorable experience with the Michigan Philharmonic and our students. Thank you for your continued support in nurturing our children's love for music and the arts!

WWCSD K-12 Attendance Protocol
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools K-12 Attendance Protocol
- One (1) absence and every absence thereafter - An automated call will be sent to indicate that the student has missed an attendance period. If a call was made to the school to excuse the absence, this call does not go out.
- Three (3) absences or equivalent - A teacher will make a phone call to discuss the reason(s) for the absences and seek to support the family in getting the child to school.
- Six (6) absences or equivalent - An attendance letter is sent to communicate the district’s concern about attendance and highlight the steps in the attendance protocol.
- Nine (9) absences or equivalent - A meeting will be set up between the family and an administrator or support staff member to discuss attendance barriers and to highlight the urgency of regular attendance.
- Twelve (12) absences or equivalent - Student’s name and address are submitted to Concentric to conduct a home visit. The school will notify parents of the upcoming visit. The details of that home visit are shared with the school to support the student’s regular attendance in school. The middle and high school students’ names and addresses will also be submitted to Westland Youth Assistance or Wayne Youth Services for enrollment in their programming. The second attendance letter is also mailed home at this time.
- Fifteen (15) absences or equivalent - Final attendance letter is sent home.
- Eighteen (18) absences or equivalent - Student is referred to Wayne County through formal petition for chronic absenteeism.
Food Service Update & Start of Snack Cart
Food Service uses a third party website to load funds onto students' accounts. The site is called PaySchools and information can be reached below, this money would stay on your students account from year to year, also from school to school in the district, and is available to spend at lunch on extra purchases such as snacks or an extra slice of pizza. The site does take 24-36 hours to upload money to a students account so be sure to do so a day or two prior to needing the funds. Please reach out to the Food Service Department with questions 734-419-2118 or foodservice@wwcsd.net
