This Week at CCES
November 11 - 15
Our campus attendance goal is 96%
This week's attendance is 95.53%
Cub Families,
We had a great week here at CCES. The students enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal this week prepared by our fabulous cafeteria team.
Next week we will have our second Cub Club day on Friday. We are excited to see all the students doing their different activities. We are looking at ways to have a few parents volunteer to help us with some of the clubs.
Fifth grade will be going to BOA in February. This is the first year we will be going to BOA with another campus. We will be there with Viola Wilson Elementary. Last night we were able to meet as a team with their teachers to begin planning the groups. Mrs. Farias will email out that information next week.
Have a great weekend!

Want to Volunteer at CCES?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering here at CCES. If you haven't already done so, please complete the background check at the link below. Don't forget that you must do this every year as the background check does expire.
If you have CCES Spirit shirts your child has outgrown (or your child has moved on to another school), please consider donating them back to us so we can pass them on to another student who may not have the opportunity to own one. You can drop them off for the counseling department at the front office. Thank you for your generosity!!

Here are a few tips on strep and how to manage it.
What is strep?
Strep throat is an infection caused by streptococcus bacteria. It is transmitted person-to-person through respiratory secretions and is also passed in households. The incubation period is 2-5 days. People with strep are infectious until they have received treatment and until 24 hours after starting antibiotics. The ONLY certain way to diagnose strep throat is with a throat culture.
School Protocol
Students who test positive for strep throat need to be out of school for at least 24 hours after treatment has begun and starting antibiotics, fever has subsided, and they feel well enough to resume a full day of school activities.
Symptoms to look for that are common in strep
The onset of sore throat is rapid.
Fevers are common along with body aches.
The sore throat persists beyond one or two days.
A rash appears with the sore throat, especially one that looks like sandpaper or goose bumps along with the appearance of âstrawberry tongueâ (signs of scarlet fever).
Recent contact with another child who was diagnosed with strep throat or the skin infection, impetigo.
Pus or greenish-yellow discharge seen in the back of the throat.
Large, rubbery lymph nodes in the neck region.
Petechiae, tiny red dots surrounding the tonsils and extending on the palate.
Small white dots or patches may be visible on the palate or tonsil.
Nausea and/or vomiting or belly pain
Treatments
Strep infections are usually treated with an oral antibiotic, starting either with characteristic symptoms or after a strep test is positive. Here are some other tips to help relieve symptoms
Over the counter medications such as Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can help with pain and reduce fevers
Salt-water gargles and honey or lemon in tea may help soothe a sore throat.
Complications
Complications can occur after a strep throat infection. This can happen if the bacteria spread to other parts of the body.
Complications can include:
Abscesses (pockets of pus) around the tonsils or in the neck
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
Sinus infections
Ear infections
Rheumatic fever (a disease that can affect the heart, joints, brain, and skin)
Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (a kidney disease)
How to prevent the spread
Wash your hands after wiping your nose or coughing and before preparing food.
Change your childâs toothbrush and toothpaste 24 hours after starting antibiotics.
Wash dishes carefully in hot, soapy water or in a dishwasher.
Do not allow the sharing of food or allow children to share cups, spoons, or toys that are put in the mouth.
Complete the entire course of the antibiotics prescribed by your doctor and call your physician if symptoms return following completion of treatment.
