Weekly Inspiration
Hopefully you spend last week being curious about your students and are continuing to get to know them as people and as learners. I also hope you enjoyed asking students on Friday about their favorite or most influential staff member at SHS. Sometimes asking these questions allows us to know our students and who connects with them or motivates them more than asking those questions directly. And finally, I hope you shared those statements with your colleagues so they can more directly know their impact.
This past week a friend and colleague shared the short video linked above. The words Denzel Washington speaks aren't anything new or a message I haven't hear before, but for some reason I've listened to it a handful of times throughout the weekend and it has helped get my mind right and have a better mindset.
"You may not be able to control every situation and its outcome, but you can control your attitude and how you deal with it."
"Be happy with what you have while working for what you want."
These two statements are the ones that I really think I needed to hear. I hope something in this video connects with you this week and helps you like it helped me!

Being a teacher is not just a profession or WHAT you do - it's a calling that requires passion, dedication, empathy, and a commitment to making a positive impace on the lives of others. So the next time someone asks you what do you do, please tell them truth and don't sell yourselves short.
Thank you for all that you do for our students, staff, community, and each other!

STARS Program
We celebrated the Class of 2024 STARS students and their honored educators this week. It is always an amazing evening to celebrate our seniors with a GPA of 4.0 or above, and to honor the educators who helped them along the way in Perry Township.
UIndy Engineering Scholarship
Congratulations to Alejandro Martinez-Ramirez who was awarded a full-tuition scholarship from the University of Indianapolis School of Engineering. Thank you to Mr. Snodgrass, Mr. Stanich and the robotics team for being there to support Alejandro and his family.
Pep Session
The Spring Pep Session was a great way to kick off the spring seasons and to meet the new Booster Club officers. All of the spring sports seniors were recognized along with our state qualifiers for wrestling. There were also outstanding performances by our choir who sang the National Anthem, the Myanmar Student Association (MSA) who performed a traditional dance, and our dance team who rocked one of their routines. The students had fun with dizzy bat competitions, musical chairs, and tug of war. The staff battled the seniors for the final tug of war challenge and the staff came out victorius!
Purdue and Quibit x Quibit - Quantum Physics Visit
Purdue University visited SHS this past Thursdayband Friday. David Stewart from Purdue's Quantum Physics department (with some Purdue University students) and Gabbie from Qubit by Qubit were here to discuss and teach students about quantum physics and coding. Students from our ICP, Physics, Robotics, and Engineering classes listened to presentations in 267. Here is the website for Qubit by Qubit if you too want to learn more about quantum physics.

Micah Brown
Mr. Brown's PE2 class spend the day in the pool for a lesson about boating safety. The students learned how to paddle a kayak, safety rules, and how to get back in if they fall into the water. The students had a splashing good time!
Rosalind Jackson
Mrs. Jackson's French 2 students are using Blooket to review vocabulary terms. The students were engaged while Mrs. Jackson was able to monitor their progress walking around the classroom.
Conner McNeely
Mr. McNeely's Spanish 2 class was using a "pick your own adventure" story from Senor Wooly to practice their comprehension and summarization skills in Spanish. The students also had a Gimkit activity to review key vocabulary terms.

Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Baker's culinary classes designed and baked all of the desserts for the STARS banquet this week. The sweet treats looked professional and tasted delicious.
