Our Mission: “To share the Good News of Jesus Christ, teach children, and assist parents in training children to be witnessing Christians and productive citizens.”
Weekly Devotion
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
“How Often, and How Much?”
Homework, studying for tests, working on projects. Practice for sports, games and
tournaments. Music lessons, dance class, recitals. Chores to be done at home. Our kids
are busy! Parents are working and tending to matters at home, cooking and cleaning
and washing and folding. There’s so much to do, and so little time to do it! We go, go, go,
until we’re exhausted, and we usually have to go a little bit more.
It is easy to get bogged down in the busy-ness of life. Things that ought to be fun,
become a burden. Things that ought to cause us to be happy become a source of grief.
Rather than an event being an activity we enjoy doing or experiencing, it is simply one
more item to be checked off the list before moving on to the next one.
Sadly, when we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, our rejoicing and praying
and giving thanks are relegated to the bottom of the list and only given our attention if
time allows. Yet, as God’s people, these are the things that should take priority and
precedent in our lives.
Rejoice always. In all circumstances, we rejoice in response to God’s goodness and
gracious provision for our bodies and souls. We rejoice that we have been redeemed and
claimed as God’s children in our baptism, and the forgiveness, life, and salvation are His
free gifts to us by faith.
We pray without ceasing. Often our prayers are sporadic, at best. Yet, God would have
us talk to Him in the midst of the struggles and difficulties of life as well as in the midst
of the moments that bring us joy and happiness, too. And we do so knowing that He
hears us and He answers us for the sake of Jesus. Bring our petitions and supplications
before God for ourselves and for our neighbor in bold confidence.
We give thanks in all circumstances, not only the times when things seem to be going
our way. We give thanks to God that He showers us with His love and kindness. We give
thanks to God for the life we have been given and the families into which He has placed
us, and for all of the things that we have to do. We thank God for providing for our
salvation in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
We do these things because it is God’s will for us. He has made us His people through
faith in Christ, and these are the things that His people are to be about. As you run about
here and there and everywhere, be sure that you are also rejoicing and praying and
giving thanks to God!
Prayer: O God, in the midst of all that we are given to do, may we fulfill Your will for our
lives, rejoicing and praying and giving thanks to You for all that you give to us so
graciously each and every day; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The LCMS cares deeply for those who currently serve, for those who have donned the cloth of our nation in uniform, and for those who served our nation and live in our communities.
